The Magpies kept their unbeaten streak going but conceded late on to share points with Taunton Town at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Tom Killick named three changes to the side that drew with Wimborne Town last week with keeper Gerard Benfield returning to the squad following his spell on the sidelines with injury replacing loanee Harry Lee. Ieuan Turner and Harry Hutchinson also came into the squad, replacing Jordan Ngalo and Luke Pardoe.

Taunton had the first effort of the day after just two minutes through Alfie Moulden from range but the shot was saved easily by Benfield.

The Magpies were on the attack in the early stages and came close to carving out their first opportunity after 15 minutes when Corby Moore’s dangerous free kick was swung into the penalty area. Will Spetch rose to meet the set-piece but Taunton made a crucial clearance to deny the chance.

It took half an hour for the Magpies to score, with Olaf Koszela bagging his 21st goal of the campaign. Corby Moore was looking sharp on set pieces and his swinging corner was met by Hutchinson, who flicked the ball onto Koszela who had no difficulty in dispatching the chance with the form he has been on recently.

Moore was causing more problems from set-pieces five minutes later, but the Peacocks managed to clear the danger again.

At the start of the second half, the Magpies were putting on the pressure again and came close to doubling their lead. Koszela crossed the ball into Shaquille Gwengwe but his header as just wide of the post.

After 51 minutes Jack Dickson took on an effort but the ball blazed over the crossbar.

On the hour mark, Dorchester’s day was made more difficult after going down to 10 men when Ollie Haste was shown a straight red card.

With this, Taunton were ramping up the pressure and both players and fans were calling for a handball in the Magpies penalty area before a foul was given the other way.

Nielsen found more space in the midfield and fizzed a shot towards goal only for Benfield to graciously make the save with the chance straight at him.

With just over ten minutes to go, the Peacocks came close to an equaliser when Jack Rice’s headed effort towards the face of goal forces a smart save from Benfield.

The hosts levelled two minutes into the additional 10 minutes of added time that were played thanks to a thunderous effort from Jack Rice who was assisted by Jayden Nielsen.

The result sees Dorchester in fifth place with 55 points in the Southern League South.
