Sir Chris Hoy ticked another item off his bucket list as he spent a special few days in Wales with his wife Sarra.

The six-time Olympic gold medallist was first diagnosed with cancer in September 2023 after a tumour was discovered in his shoulder. But in October last year, he announced that his condition was terminal, with a scan finding primary cancer in his prostate, which had metastasised to his bones.

While he was given "two to four years" left to live by doctors, Hoy has not let the frightening prognosis hold him back and is making time to both enjoy life and challenge himself alongside treatment.

In sharing his story, the Team GB icon has already prompted hundreds of thousands of men across the UK to check for prostate cancer, while he has also led fundraising efforts for Doddie Aid to raise money in the fight against MND/ALS.

But after a brutal 18 months, in which time Sarra was also diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, their recent trip to Wales was all about pleasure and relaxation as Hoy drove the car of his dreams, shared precious moments with his wife and enjoyed dinner at one of the UK's top restaurants.

In a compilation of photos taken on their visit, the 48-year-old former cyclist is seen posing proudly next to a Singer Turbo, which he described as a "bucket list car" that "far exceeded" his expectations having taken it on loan for a couple of days for the road trip to Wales. A delighted Hoy added that he "loved every second" of being behind the wheel and "even enjoyed washing" the car before returning it.

The Olympian was also seen relaxing in the bath with Sarra, who was enjoying a glass of wine, while he shared several snaps from their visit to Wales' first two Michelin-star restaurant, Ynyshir. The dinner experience at Gareth Ward's restaurant starts at £385+VAT per person, but it was worth every penny for Hoy as he described it as "one of the most memorable meals and evenings of my life."

The former cyclist shared photos of the several dishes he enjoyed, as well as a clip of the food being prepared, while he and Sarra also posed for a snap with Ward himself. He added that he had received a "tip-off" about Ynyshir from his former Team GB teammate Becky James and her husband, Welsh rugby star George North.

"The stuff dreams are made of!," said Hoy in his Instagram post. "A @singervehicledesign Turbo on loan for a couple of days and a road trip to Wales with @sarra.hoy to experience @ynyshirrestaurant and all the delights they have to offer.

"One of the most memorable meals and evenings of my life, if you ever get the chance to go then grab it with both hands. Huge congratulations to @garethwardchef and his team, what a place!

"And what better mode of transport than a Singer Turbo?! A bucket list car that didn’t just live up to my sky high expectations but far exceeded them. What a flippin machine!! Loved every second in it. I even enjoyed washing it this afternoon before it goes back tomorrow.

"Massive thanks to @mfranchitti for sorting the car loan and to @george_north & @becksjames for the Ynyshir tip off!"," he added.
