Weymouth suffered a 2-1 away defeat at Park View Road in London to Welling United on Tuesday evening.

Feeney named a changed side from the one that crashed out of the FA Trophy in a 2-1 defeat at home to Boreham Wood on Saturday with Charlie Rowan, Corey Jordan, Jake McCarthy, Malachi Linton and Brandon Goodship replacing Calvin Brooks, Andy Robinson, Brooklyn Genesini, Jaiden Bartolo and Euan Pollock.

The Terras were forced to make a change before the game had even begun, after Robinson is said to have suffered discomfort in the warm-up, seeing him replaced by Brooks.

Just three minutes later, Welling United took the lead through a directed header from Riccardo Di Trollo following great wide play from Sam Cornish to dig out the cross.

Chiori Johnson tried his luck for the home side after 11 minutes but his shot was the wrong side of the post. He had another chance four minutes later but flashed the effort wide again.

Welling United players and fans were appealing for a penalty after 20 minutes, claiming that a Weymouth player handled the ball after a Welling player headed a cross towards goal. The referee waved play on.

The Terras came close to finding an equaliser after 22 minutes through Jake McCarthy, but Welling keeper and debutant Dylan Berry did well to acrobatically tip the shot over the cross bar.

Weymouth were trying to scramble in their first goal of the game just before the half hour mark, but chances from Brooks and Linton were scurried away by the defence.

Welling were looking increasingly dangerous from their corners and another was looped into a tough position for Terras players to clear, resulting in a goal mouth scramble.

Feeney was forced to make an early substitute after 38 minutes, with McQuoid replaced by Ben Greenwood.

With two minutes to go before half time, the Terras came close again, this time O’Connell’s header went inches wide of the goal.

After a tense start the second half, the home side managed to double their lead. Terras keeper Buse did well to deny a certain goal from point-blank range after a shot from Redfearn, but Zain Walker followed up on the rebound to see the score 2-0.

Berry was on form for Welling, dealing well with any pressure brought on by the Terras in the second half, and denying Linton a goal after his shot at the near post was saved.

Jordon Thompson gave the travelling fans reason to cheer after bundling in a goal in a busy penalty area, halving Weymouth’s deficit to one.

Six minutes of added time were not enough for the Terras to find an equaliser. The result sees Weymouth rooted to the bottom of the table on 15 points.

Terras XI: Buse, Hamblin, Thompson, Rowan, Jordan, Robinson, McQuoid, McCarthy, O’Connell, Linton, Goodship. Subs: English, Genesini, Greenwood, Jones, Brooks.
