TGL golf highlights: Best moments from Tiger Woods-Rory McIlroy, including records set

The best match of the TGL season is in the books.

There were numerous records that went down Monday night at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The first shot-clock violation, thanks to Tiger Woods. Most feet of putts made. Closest approach shot in league history. Most Hammers thrown (7).

And, we had the first overtime match, which resulted in Woods' Jupiter Links Golf Club topping Rory McIlroy's Boston Common Golf 4-3 after the closest to the pin alternate shot.

Here's a recap of all the action and highlights from the match.

TGL overtime

Best of 3, alternate shot, closest to the pin from 37 yards for the win. No Hammer in overtime.

Keegan Bradley hits first for Boston Common, and his pitch lands into the slope on the green and rolls backward off the green. Tom Kim is next, and he finds the green. 1-0 Jupiter Links.

The second shot goes to Kevin Kisner, and if he wins, they win the match. He finds the green and ends up 14 feet, 2 inches from the hole. Adam Scott up next, and his shot also misses the slope and ends up short. Jupiter Golf Links wins the match.

TGL Hole 15: Drama-filled hole results in tie, going to overtime

Keegan Bradley and Tom Kim for the match on a par-5. Bradley finds the fairway then Kim does the same. Kim's approach finds the bunker then Bradley finds the green. Bradley's eagle putt leaves plenty of meat on the bone, then Kim from the bunker doesn't get it out and it falls back in the sand. His fourth shot rolls over the edge of the cup but doesn't fall in. It's a par for Jupiter Links, and Keegan Bradley has a putt to win it for Boston Common. Bradley's putt barely misses, and we're going to overtime for the first time in TGL history.

TGL Hole 14: Adam Scott buries long birdie putt

Adam Scott and Kevin Kisner both find the green on the par 3, but neither end up on the right tier of the green. ADAM SCOTT! He then drains the long birdie putt. Kisner's putt to tie just misses, and it's tied at 3 with one hole left.

TGL Hole 13: Tiger matches Rory after Hammer throw

Back to Tiger and Rory. Both players find the fairway. Tiger's approach misses the green left, then Rory also tugs his approach. Rory has the longer par putt after their chips, and he walks it in. Then Boston Common throws the Hammer, and Tiger has a putt to tie. Tiger's putt circles the entire hole then drops. Jupiter Links remains up 3-2 with two holes left.

TGL Hole 12: Tom Kim's near ace wins hole

Short par 3 for Tom Kim and Keegan Bradley, and Kim nearly makes an ace on his approach shot. Hits it to a couple feet for the conceded birdie, and Bradley's shot finds the green but leaves a lengthy birdie attempt, which he misses. Jupiter Links goes up 3-2.

TGL Hole 11: Jupiter Links ties it at 2

A par-4 for Kevin Kisner and Adam Scott. Kisner hits the green but rolls away from the hole while Scott goes long. Kisner hits a great lag putt to a couple feet and makes par, then Scott duffs his chip shot from a terrible lie and angle. Jupiter Links throws the Hammer, but Boston Common declines. Jupiter Links ties it at 2.

TGL Hole 10: Tiger Woods gets shot-clock violation

Tiger vs. Rory on the par-5 The Spear in Singles. Tiger finds the fairway, and Rory follows suit. Tiger blasts a 3 wood and finds the green. Rory also hits a missile and is inside of Tiger. Both have uphill eagle putt to the top tier of the green. Tiger powers his eagle putt past the hole, and he just misses the hole and gets the birdie conceded. Tiger had 8 feet to tie, but he gets a shot-clock violation and loses the stroke. McIlroy wins the hole, and Boston Common goes up 2-1.

TGL Hole 9: Presidents Cup Tom Kim has shown up

Last hole of Triples, the par-5 Boomerang. Tiger gives the second shot a go but ends up left of the green, and both teams have birdie putts. Keegan Bradley then steps up and drills a huge birdie putt. Enter Tom Kim, with 8 feet for birdie, and he walks it in while shouting at the crowd. Electric. Tied at 1 going to singles.

TGL Hole 8: Adam Scott, Kevin Kisner match clutch putts

Kisner finds the fairway on the par 4 (he's playing MUCH better tonight than his debut) while Adam Scott's tee shot goes into the rough. Neither Tiger nor Rory hit great chips after both approach shots miss the green, leaving length birdie putts for both sides. Adam Scott walks in his putt for Boston Common, which then throws the Hammer. Kisner then proceeds to also walk in the putt. Another tied hole.

TGL Hole 7: Tom Kim clutch putt ties hole

On the par 3, Rory hits it to 15 feet for birdie after Tiger goes long on the green. Kisner hit a great shot from over the green that ends up about 10 feet away. Adam Scott had a birdie putt to win for Boston Common that just missed the hole and was conceded for par. Tom Kim up for Jupiter Links to tie it, and he pours it in. Tied at 1 thru 7 holes.

TGL Hole 6: Jupiter Links ties it after penalty

Keegan Bradley's tee shot went into the penalty area on the drivable par-4, and Tom Kim's tee shot came up short of the green. McIlroy hit the third for Boston Common, hitting it to 25 feet. Then Tiger hit a pitch to 11 feet for birdie. Adam Scott's par putt comes up just short. Then Kisner hit the birdie attempt for Jupiter Links, just missing the hole, but it was conceded and got Jupiter Links on the board.

TGL Hole 5: Another Hammer, Rory McIlroy makes clutch putt

Kisner and Scott hit tee shots with both players finding the green. Bradley hits the first putt for Boston Common, and it goes well past, resulting in Jupiter Links throwing the Hammer. Tom Kim is unable to make the birdie putt, then Rory had 5 feet for par to tie, and he made it. Boston Common remains on top.

TGL Hole 4: A pair of birdies leads to tie

A new hole, Sidewinder, a par-5. Rory and Tiger tee off and find the fairway. Kisner's approach never leaves the flag but comes up short, then Adam Scott hit his approach to 13 feet for Boston Common. Then Jupiter Links' Tom Kim hits a brilliant chip to a couple feet. Keegan Bradley's eagle putt to win the hole never had a chance, but it was close enough to be conceded for birdie. Tiger then knocked in a 5 footer for Jupiter Links first birdie through their first two TGL matches. Boston Common remains on top 1-0.

TGL Hole 3: Boston Common gets first point

Tom Kim's tee shot landed in a bunker, then Tiger couldn't get his second shot out of the bunker. Bostom Common threw the Hammer, and Jupiter Links didn't accept it, meaning they conceded the hole and Boston Common gets on the board.

TGL Hole 2: Another Hammer thrown, remains scoreless

Kevin Kisner left Jupiter Links in an interesting situation on the par-5, as his fourth shot, a putt from the fringe, made it only halfway to the hole. Then the Hammer was thrown yet again. But Tom Kim stepped up and drilled his par putt, then Keegan Bradley did the same, and again, the match remains scoreless.

TGL Hole 1: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy miss opening putts

After smashing drives on the opening par-4, Tiger had a par putt and couldn't covert, forcing Boston Common to throw the Hammer. Then Rory had a putt to win the hole, but he also missed. Plenty of banter between the teams on the opening hole but it's scoreless after one.

What is TGL?

TGL, which unofficially stands for Tomorrow's Golf League, is a new tech-infused golf league that will partner with the PGA Tour. The idea behind it is to combine the latest in golf technology with in-person competition.

TGL’s format is designed to, in Woods' words, "bring a fresh, modern, and fast-paced twist to the game we all love so much."

It will include a shot clock, timeouts, and both team and individual match play. The league will be comprised of six teams, with four players on each team for the inaugural 2025 season.

TGL teams: Rosters for TGL golf league

Here are the six teams and their players competing in the first season of TGL:

Atlanta Drive GC

  • Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover, Billy Horschel, Justin Thomas

Boston Common Golf

  • Keegan Bradley, Hideki Matsuyama, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott

The Bay Golf Club

Jupiter Links Golf Club

Los Angeles Golf Club

New York Golf Club

TGL format: Rules for the inaugural season

Each TGL match is a competitive showcase of skill and strategy, consisting of two intense sessions. The first session is a nine-hole, 3-on-3 alternate-shot format known as "triples." In the second session, golfers compete in singles, going head-to-head over six holes, with each player playing two holes. A shot clock set to 40 seconds adds to the pressure, as any shot clock violation incurs a one-stroke penalty.

Each hole is worth one point. If the teams are tied at the end of regulation, the match will proceed to overtime. During overtime, players compete head-to-head, and the team that lands their shot closest to the pin will be declared the winner.
