Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has already suggested the club will put up a fight to retain Patrick Dorgu amid interest from Manchester United.

It is understood United are in talks to sign the highly-rated left wing-back but nothing has yet been finalised. The 20-year-old, who is a Danish international, is being considered by United in their quest to strengthen their wing-back options.

United are currently light on left-sided wing-backs amid Luke Shaw's injury woes. Tyrell Malacia is yet to complete a full 90 minutes since returning from a long-term knee injury and could leave on loan before the end of the transfer window.

Dorgu, who joined Lecce as a youth player in 2022, could be a suitable fit in United head coach Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation given his attacking intentions. He is also capable of playing on the right.

Lecce chief Corvino, speaking in early-December, suggested that any club wishing to sign the Copenhagen-born defender will have to put forward an attractive offer, admitting that talks concerning his future would not take place until the summer.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport last month, Corvino said: "Dorgu is a potential champion. Correction: he is a champion.

"Left or right winger, he runs like three players and can find the goal. He has an engine that no one else has. A player like him has admirers, of course, and there are plenty of them, even abroad. But Dorgu will stay here, and then we'll talk about it in the summer, because his destiny is already set—his future belongs to him."

Dorgu, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool recently, has earned four caps for Denmark and marked his debut in September by scoring with his very first touch, helping them seal a 2-0 win over Switzerland in the Nations League.
