Theo Walcott reveals why Sam Allardyce was so important in his move to Everton from Arsenal

Theo Walcott has backed Sam Allardyce to get him firing again after revealing the Everton manager was the key factor in leaving Arsenal for Merseyside in January.

The Englishman has already scored twice and assisted another since joining the club after being restricted to starting only 15 times for Arsenal – just six of which were in the Premier League.

Walcott played under Allardyce during the latter’s brief and controversial stint as England manager and admitted he is enjoying the intensity of the 63-year-old’s training methods.

“Sam was one of the main reasons why I came to the club,” Walcott told the club’s website. “I wanted a manager like that who could get the best out of me.

“I had that short stint with Sam with England and to see it now every day, the way the intensity of training is and how demanding it is has been great. I like to go into training every day and try to be better than the day before.”

Everton have improved since Allardyce took charge but a 5-1 thumping away to Walcott’s former club Arsenal has hindered their charge.

“Results will change. We need to make sure we are ready and focused for the weekend because we need to start getting some more points in order to be more comfortable,” he added.

“There have been a few recent results like getting the draw against West Brom and then beating Leicester where we have seen improved performances but I have come here to push Everton on.”
