'There's holes' - Newcastle United Carabao Cup Final verdict given as 'asleep' duo singled out
Former England winger Joe Cole still believes Newcastle have what it takes to reach the Carabao Cup Final and win some silverware this season, despite a disappointing display against Bournemouth.
Andoni Iraola's side ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against the Magpies thanks to a Justin Kluivert hat-trick and Milos Kerkez strike as they closed the gap to the European places. The Toon remained in the top-four with Chelsea not in action until Monday night.
It was a sloppy performance from the Magpies who saw their impressive unbeaten run come crashing down on home soil. Speaking on TNT Sport, Cole said: "So sloppy - asleep. Livramento and Hall have been brilliant I think, but I thought both of them today were just not on their game. The two centre-halves couldn't cope with the movement or runs. You've got to praise Bournemouth.

"They take risks in the right area of the pitch. They're winning the ball and throwing bodies forward, running into channels. Win the ball, run forward and score goals, it's very simple football.
"Sometimes we tend to make it more difficult than what it is. It could have been more, this is a real eye opener for Newcastle. They've been great and on a great run. Just back to the drawing board, I still think there's holes here and there in the team but they won't play against a team with the energy and aggression of Bournemouth today.
"Poor. I think the midfield did okay. Tonali was getting about but the sloppiness early on in the game playing into midfield. You know Eddie and his team will have been drilling it into them 'these are a good pressing team you need to be on it, everything needs to be crisp.'
"It was moments and moments. Turning the ball over, not holding it up. It was poor. It can happen, you can have an off day. This place has been buzzing and they've had some great results in recent weeks. You can have an off day, playing Bournemouth when they're at their peak that comes into play.
"There's loads of factors that come into it. You cannot start a Premier League game against a good side with that kind of sloppiness on display. We've praised them and rightly so because the players have done a great job, but today they were just of it.
"It's a little pin into the balloon, take the air out of it and go again. I still think there's a final in the grasp of this club and I still think they're on the right path with Eddie. Today just wasn't their day."
Bruno Guimaraes' header cancelled out Kluivert's opener midway through the first-half, but it was the visitors who turned the screw and were good value for the points this afternoon. A sentiment echoed by fellow TNT pundit Peter Crouch.
He said: "They started pretty badly Newcastle. I thought Livramento was sloppy in the early moments. You see here he goes tight [to Semenyo] which is totally fine but once he spins him he's got to go with him. and he was just ambling a little bit back. Semenyo is in and again Jacob Murphy switches off. It's a fantastic finish [from Kluivert].
"As sloppy as Newcastle were, you do have to give Bournemouth credit. As good as Bournemouth were, Newcastle were equally as sloppy. It was a disappointing day for them. Something they'll write off and put down to one game because they need to bounce back."
