The football world have been sending their messages of love to Thiago Silva after he announced he will leave Chelsea at the end of the season.

Silva, 39, confirmed his decision to leave the club with an emotional video to Blues supporters on Monday. After almost four years at the club, Silva has been a mainstay in the heart of defence.

Since moving from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, the Brazilian has made over 150 appearances and helped them win three honours - the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

The club are expected to dip into the transfer market in the summer to replace the experienced centre-back once the summer transfer window opens. Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have all signed under Todd Boehly's ownership but injuries have hampered their start to life at Cobham.

Silva is expected to appear in Chelsea's final five games of the season and help Mauricio Pochettino's team secure European football. The Blues are currently ninth in the Premier League, five points behind Newcastle in seventh-placed - a position that would secure Europa Conference League football.

On Monday, after penning a heartfelt message via the club, Silva took to Instagram to post a short video of his time at the club. He wrote: "What an incredible journey. There are still a few more games to enjoy together. Love you @chelseafc! *blue heart emoji*."

Players from Chelsea past and present have commented on the post to send their best wishes to the defender. Reece James wrote: "A true brother. One of the best players to play the game and an even better person. We shared many memories together that'll stay with me forever, thank you for everything big bro *red heart emoji*."

Trevoh Chalobah added: "Shared the pitch with my idol, grateful *blue heart emoji* *hands together emoji*." Former Chelsea captain John Terry was also full of praise for Silva, writing: "It's been a pleasure watching you mate, just a shame I didn't get the chance to play alongside you. LEGEND."
