Thomas Tuchel confirms Anthony Barry has joined Bayern Munich after Chelsea departure
Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Anthony Barry’s move to Bayern Munich to become his assistant is now official.
Barry joined Chelsea during Frank Lampard’s first spell in charge, but worked under Tuchel during the German’s 20-month tenure at the club and then stayed on as part of Graham Potter’s coaching staff.
However, it was revealed last month that Barry wanted to be reunited with Tuchel shortly after his appointment as Bayern boss, with the 36-year-old staying away from Chelsea matches and training sessions while the two clubs negotiated a compensation figure.
The move was put on hold while the sides were playing in the Champions League quarter-finals, as they would have faced each other in the last-four had they both progressed in Europe.
However, Chelsea were knocked out by Real Madrid and Bayern lost to Manchester City, accelerating talks and a £1million compensation fee has since been agreed.
While no official confirmation of the move has come yet from Chelsea, Tuchel revealed Barry, who is viewed as a set-piece specialist, is now part of his team at Bayern.
“He’s arrived,” Tuchel said. “I’m very happy.
“We really wanted to have him with us. He’s a great personality, passion and quality, whether it’s the details or set piece situations. I’ve not seen such a level before.”
