Threave Rovers look set for a busy end of the season as they bid for promotion from the West of Scotland League’s third division.

The Castle Douglas side have endured a number of postponements thanks to the weather and progress in a number of cup competitions.

And that is set to leave them playing catch up as the season enters the business end.

Boss Danny Dunglinson said: “There’s 20 games and 17 or 18 Saturdays left, assuming no games are postponed through January and February, which I imagine they will.

“I can see the end of March or beginning of April being the start of the midweek games.

“We weren’t running with the biggest of squads. Ross Irving is looking to be back for January 18 at Thorn, which is a big game for us.

“We brought in Charlie Maxwell and Niall Rogerson on loan but only to the start of January. We’re going to try to extend them if possible.

“It looks more likely we can extend Niall’s, I think Annan are quite keen on getting Charlie Maxwell back involved.

“He’s only managed to get three games during his loan period, which is unfortunate.

“We’ll speak to Queen of the South and see if we can keep Niall until the end of the season as he came in against Finnart and was really good. He fits our profile of what we want.”

Threave went into the festive break fifth in the table, having played just 10 of their 30 league games.

Thorn Athletic are top, 11 points better off having played four games more. This season has been Dunglinson’s first in management and has seen some outstanding performances – including a Scottish Cup encounter with Stranraer that ended in heartbreak.

He said:” It’s been enjoyable, we’ve had some really good results and against Stranraer we got the performance if not the result.

“There’s been more positives than negatives going into the second part of season.

“For the number of games we’ve played you couldn’t ask for much more. You want the points on the board but we’ve suddenly put ourselves in a good position.”

Threave’s first game of 2025 is set to be at home to Kilbirnie Ladeside in the West of Scotland League Cup on January 4.
