Three Hull KR players giving Willie Peters selection headaches after Amsterdam Challenge
Hull KR went down 26-12 to York Knights in their first and final pre-season friendly of the 2025 campaign. It was a Robins side featuring first-team players potentially currently on the fringes of the matchday said as well as young guns looking to showcase their potential and future pospects.
For all of them, it was an opportunity to enhance their chances, whatever that may look like, and some players stepped up to the plate. Here, we look at four players who gave Willie Peters some selection headaches ahead of the Challenge Cup third-round game in a few weeks.
Eribe Doro
If Hull KR supporters weren't aware of what their new recruit brings to the table, they certainly do now. The prop forward, a new signing from Bradford Bulls, caught the eye with an all-action performance in Amsterdam, producing a number of highlight-worthy reel moments.

What stood out more than anything was his aggression. He regularly flew out of the line, delivered some fierce defensive efforts and hurt his opponents. With the ball, he left his mark on several occasions too. Doro played a large chunk of the first half and that's when he shone most. He made his mark early and continued that, with all of his involvements being meaningful.
He also showed there's more to his game too. His try assist for Leo Tennison was divine, producing a brilliant deceptive pass that allowed his fellow forward to slip through and score. Overall, this was a very encouraging performance. Competing for a place in the Rovers front-row, Doro had to take his opportunity here. He did just that.
Jack Brown
Captain for the day, Brown also demonstrated why he should be in Peters' mind for the opening competitive games with a strong performance of his own. While not as blockbuster as his fellow front-rower Doro, Brown's defensive contacts were strong and his general defensive work beyond that was all clean and tidy.
He carried strong too and showed he's got the engine to play big minutes if required, something that Willie Peters is known to look out for. Brown has big competition for places this year but on this evidence, he looks fitter than he was last year and has taken his defensive game to another level. Good signs.
Lee Kershaw
The arrival of the winger went somewhat under the radar, but pound for pound he has always been a trusty performer and this was an assured performance for good measure.
The recruit, who has arrived from London Broncos, produced a good winger's display here, showcasing everything required from a player in his role. He was safe under the high ball, taking two particularly tricky kicks in the first half. His second return was particularly impressive, taking a wicked kick at full speed while sliding, then getting up and passing to Jack Broadbent, who made 20 metres forward.
Kershaw made some good defensive plays too, denying counterpart Joe Brown one-on-one in the corner. He also made a great break down the wing, fooling everyone by going on the outside and racing through.
All in all, it was an impressive performance.
Honourable mentions
Two go out to Bill Leyland and Leo Tennison. Hooker Leyland was playing his first game in 363 days after an ACL injury this time last year. But you wouldn't have really known. He looked very sharp out of the ruck, making some eye-catching breaks.
As for Tennison, his first stint was superb. He forced an error with his first involvement and with his second, he scored a try. Players like Tennison are essential to Rovers, homegrown talents coming through are exactly what they need. This will give the club some encouragement.
