Three Leeds United transfer questions Daniel Farke must answer in next 14 days
There are only two weeks left of the winter transfer window and Leeds United have yet to make a new signing.
Three players have left on loan for the rest of the season, with Joe Gelhardt departing for Hull City, Charlie Crew for Doncaster Rovers and Luca Thomas for Halifax Town. All will gain much-needed minutes but supporters are worried that United are playing a risky game with the absence of arrivals.
Daniel Farke has repeatedly insisted he will ‘stay awake’ to any transfer opportunities, though expects a quiet window. So the door remains open but it is unclear whether United will bring in a new face before deadline day on February 3. Either way, Farke has three transfer questions to answer.

Will Leeds sign a new striker or No.10?
With Patrick Bamford out with a hamstring injury until the end of January and Gelhardt loaned away, there has been concern from fans over the striker role. Joel Piroe is comfortably the first-choice pick but questions hang over the quality of his back-ups.
Mateo Joseph has not scored since October, despite playing in every Championship game and Bamford has yet to make a league start. The pair have contributed two goals between them.
As such, some believe it is important that a new striker is brought in while others see the number 10 role as more of a priority. Ahead of Sheffield Wednesday, Farke confirmed that Brenden Aaronson is his number one pick there, although less clear is who is his go-to back-up.
And all the while, though hesitant to comment on another club’s player, Farke on Sunday outlined how much he admires Emilianio Buendia - one of his “best” players at Norwich City and someone who could leave Aston Villa on loan this month.
Will Leeds recruit a new centre-back?
Perhaps this will be answered later this week. Pascal Struijk is set to undergo scans to see whether he has damaged his tendon, having picked up a hamstring injury last week.
The defender had initially been ruled out for three weeks and the medical team remain hopeful that he will not be out for longer. However, if results do come back worse than expected then Struijk could potentially face up to three months out.
Farke admitted that Ethan Ampadu - who will likely continue to play at centre-back in Stuijk’s absence - is not his solution for the run-in period, albeit is happy with him in there for now. Though, he has previously underlined how much he likes Ampadu in midfield.
If Struijk is to be ruled out long-term, then Farke has indicated that he could look into the market. If his setback is only a few weeks, then perhaps not.
Will Leeds let any other fringe players go?
With three already loaned out, there is a risk that the United squad becomes too slim. However, the truth of the matter is that there are two players who have not played since earning their senior debuts.
Many had anticipated James Debayo to play a role against Harrogate Town but he was not even part of the squad. Farke later said that he didn’t want to be a manager who hands minutes out to youth players in cup matches then not play them again for months.
Both Debayo and Sam Chambers made their senior debuts against Plymouth Argyle back in November but neither have got onto the first-team pitch since. A loan at a lower league club would no doubt serve the pair well but whether Farke wishes to allow them to leave and thus lower squad numbers is questionable.
