Three Liverpool players could miss Manchester United while four at risk of disciplinary action
Liverpool avoided losing any players to suspension after running out 5-0 winners over West Ham United on Sunday. Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez headed into the game just one yellow card away from serving a one-match ban.
Had they been booked against the Hammers, they would have been ruled out of the Reds’ home clash with Manchester United next weekend. But Liverpool successfully navigated their trip to the capital without picking up any further cautions.
Slot replaced both Gravenberch and Gakpo after 58 minutes, with the Reds already 4-0 up, to ensure they did not risk being issued with a fifth Premier League yellow card of the season. Meanwhile, Nunez was left as an unused substitute.

But while the trio will all be available to face the Red Devils next weekend as a result, along with the returning Dominik Szoboszlai after serving his own one-match ban against West Ham, they are still at risk of serving a suspension heading into the second half of the season.
Players who are shown five bookings inside the opening 19 Premier League games are handed an automatic one-match ban. The amnesty then changes to a two-match suspension for reaching 10 bookings inside 32 games, and a three-game ban for totalling 15 at any point in the campaign.
The majority of sides in the English top-flight will have completed their 19th game by the end of the current gameweek. However, courtesy of the postponed Merseyside derby against Everton earlier this month, Liverpool still have one further match to navigate before their own amnesty changes.
If any of Gravenberch, Gakpo or Nunez are booked against Manchester United, they will have to serve a one-match suspension. The same is also true of Ibrahima Konate, with the Frenchman having been issued four domestic yellow cards prior to suffering a knee injury against Real Madrid last month. However, yet to return to team training, it remains unclear if he will return for the visit of the Red Devils’ to Anfield.
Slot previously suggested he expected both Konate and Conor Bradley - who suffered a hamstring injury against Real Madrid - to return to training. But in his most recent injury update of the pair, he was keeping his cards close to his chest regarding whether it was possible for them to face Manchester United.
“They will not be back for West Ham, but then there's a week in between,” he said. “So, let's see how close they are then. But it's difficult for me to tell you at this point because they don't train with the group yet.”
While both Konate and Bradley remain doubts, Joe Gomez looks certain to miss weekend’s match after suffering a hamstring injury of his own against West Ham. He is now set to undergo a scan to diagnose the severity of the issue.
Forced off after 37 minutes, Jarell Quansah came on in his place with Slot later admitting he expected to now be without the defender for ‘quite a bit’.
“If a player says he wants to stop, he has to be changed,” the Dutchman said. “In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going to take a while before he is back. I don’t know how long, but he will be out for quite a bit.”
Federico Chiesa was left out of the travelling squad for the trip to West Ham, but Slot would confirm the decision was not injury-related as Liverpool continue to manage the Italian carefully.
“We are working on two things,” he said. “We are working about on his match fitness and whenever we can we try to bring him with the team.
“But he was on the bench during the week and we thought it was better for him to have some extra training sessions instead of joining us.
“So it's the constant balance we have to find between getting him fitter and fitter and letting him join the team.”
But with a week between matches, Chiesa should come back into contention for Manchester United’s visit to Anfield despite ongoing concerns about his match fitness.
