Rangers Fan View: Three standout performers from the 4-1 victory over Dundee
As it was Armed Forces Day at Ibrox on Saturday, I was expecting a good performance and result from Rangers. That’s what I got in fairness, maybe apart from a five or ten-minute spell in either half. Overall, I was happy with the win and the display.
However, I am going to pick out the three top performers and give my opinion on each of their performances.

Ryan Jack
Jack’s performance was one of quiet efficiency. The defensive midfielder was so important in starting the attacks; he broke down Dundee’s counters on many occasions and helped us build from middle to front. He gets more and more impressive as the games go by. However, his cute little backheel in the build up to the third goal is showing the confidence that he is playing with at the moment.
If there is one area he could improve, it would be when he takes the ball from the back four to turn and carry the ball a little more. He is a good passer of the ball and I think he should take more responsibility, in that regard, to take some pressure off Graham Dorrans.
Daniel Candeias
Candeias’ performance was his best in a Rangers shirt. He terrorised Kevin Holt and his crossing was excellent all day long. His two assists, for Morelos and Windass, had a touch of class about them, and he was extremely unlucky not to have a hat-trick of assists for Niko Kranjcar in the first half. His work rate is second to none. Dundee had to change their shape to combat him down the right-hand side.
He was replaced by Aaron Nemane with a few minutes to go; he certainly deserved the little rest for the shift he put in.

Alfredo Morelos
He keeps on scoring. But what impresses me most is his all-round game: his strength and hold-up play were superb. He played a part in the build-up to his first goal and his shot was too powerful for Bain to keep out. His second goal whether it was a cross or not, we will never know unless someone asks him, but it was cheeky from him to catch Bain out at his front post. The fans love him already, let’s hope his goalscoring run continues for many weeks to come.
Special Mention
Carlos Pena
I have to give a special mention to Carlos Pena for getting his first goal. We looked much better in a 4-2-3-1 when he replaced Miller. We can see what he can bring: his late runs into the box. He was unlucky not to score a header, but his goal itself was the finish of a striker.
He’s found it hard to settle in by all accounts but hopefully that goal will give him the confidence to go on and establish himself in the side. Unfortunately, he looks technically lacking but hopefully that’s just down to rustiness.
