Three things we learnt from the loss against Everton

Three things we learnt from the loss against Everton

Everton 2-0 West Ham. Here are three things we learnt from the game…

Slaven Bilic keeps it consistent

It was no surprise that when the starting eleven got announced, there was only one change (Adrian replaced Darren Randolph). Today’s team put in a great performance against Chelsea and each player deservedly kept their place. I’ve said that we need consistency and it appears that we finally have it. After chopping and changing earlier on in the season, this may be our starting eleven for the next few games. We’ve seen how important keeping the same team is in going on a winning run and Andre Ayew does need time to get fully fit. Yes, we did lose today’s game but Everton are a great team and given that we were away, there’s no reason for us to change.

A bad end to a good month

Having only won one game in all of September, and that was in the EFL Cup, the results in October were much needed. After the awful performance we put in against Southampton we managed to finally get points from a game in the Premier League against Middlesbrough. Then came the back-to-back wins against Crystal Palace and Sunderland which, as we all know, were must wins for Bilic. Had we not won those games his job would have been under serious threat. We then managed to defeat Chelsea in the EFL Cup though it was not the end to the month that many hoped for with today’s loss.

Will we ever be able to stop Romelu Lukaku from scoring?

Yes, he is one of the best strikers in the Premier League. Yes, going into the game he had scored the second highest amount of goals (6) in the league. But regardless of all that, Lukaku just can’t seem to stop scoring against us. Going into today’s game Lukaku had scored in every single one of his past eight games for Everton against us. EIGHT. He made that nine today and not only that, he also assisted Ross Barkley’s goal which pretty much ended any chance of us picking up a point. When we play Everton in April we already know that should Lukaku start, we’ll almost certainly concede.
