I would throw the book at Morgan Rogers for embarrassing Joelinton reaction
Newcastle United's Boxing Day win over Aston Villa had a bit of everything, didn't it? Goals, red cards, a fraca in the tunnel, missed chances and endless talking points.
But for all the analysis and debate over whether Jhon Duran deserved to have been sent off for his challenge on Fabian Schar, one incident has been hugely overlooked. And for me, it's the worst of the lot.
Shorlty after Villa had been reduced to 10 men, Newcastle's Joelinton clashed with England forward Morgan Rogers near the corner flag after the Brazilian had held off a challenge from the winger. Both had been battling for the ball and Joelinton unwisely swung a defending arm in the direction of Rogers.

It was daft. Everyone knows that you never give the referee a chance to level things up after a sending off, but Joelinton's arm merely brushed the Villa man's chest. However, what followed was frankly disgusting.
Rogers clutched his face and rolled around on the floor in a clear attempt to get Joelinton sent off. It's nothing new, we've seen it countless times before, but it's time the footballing authorities took a stance and started dolling out retrospective punishments.
It's perhaps a whole can of worms that they don't want to get involved in, but with the technology available at Premier League stadiums now, there is simply no reason this kind of behaviour should be tolerated.
It's a world away from making sure you go to ground to win a penalty when you've been caught by the smallest of knocks, or using your head to win a free-kick in a difficult situation. It's blatantly trying to con the referee into handing out the ultimate punishment.
There's precedent after all. If a player is deemed to have dived then the punishment is a yellow card. You get one for kicking the ball away now for goodness sake. But nothing for the theatrics on display at St James' Park yesterday? Diving is far less prevelant these days than 10 years ago, and that's largely thanks to the clear penalties involved.
Rogers is a quality player who is enjoying a fantastic season with Villa, and fully earned his England call up. But he should be embarrassed to look back at that footage from Boxing Day. And it's time the authorities stamped it out.
