Tigers will fancy their chances at Toulouse, believes Goode

Leicester Tigers will travel to Toulouse with minimal outside expectations but Tigers legend and Premier Sports pundit Andy Goode believes they will fancy their chances of springing an upset on the reigning Investec Champions Cup holders.
Michael Cheika’s side picked up five points in a 38-10 win over Ulster on Saturday, clinching a place in the last 16 of the competition in the process.
They now head to take on unbeaten Toulouse, live on Premier Sports on Sunday at 3pm, knowing that a victory in France, while denying their hosts a bonus point, would be enough to overtake the French giants and clinch a top two spot in the pool to earn a home knockout game.
Given Toulouse’s form – including a win away to the Sharks in South Africa last weekend – that looks a tall challenge, but Goode believes that his former club will be confident of surprising Antoine Dupont and his teammates in the game that will be live on Premier Sports at 3.15pm on Sunday.
“Anyone outside Leicester probably thinks Toulouse win it and win it comfortably having seen what they have shown in the opening three rounds,” said Goode, who is part of a 34-strong TV team delivering Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup for Premier Sports, the new broadcasters of international club rugby's premier competitions.

“But it is a straight shootout for the second place. Toulouse will go fully barred up to win it and see if they can overtake Bordeaux to a, win the group and b, also with the seedings around knockouts later on. Seeds one and two have home country advantage at the semi-finals. That’s big.
“Not many people will give Leicester a chance except Cheika and the lads. They will have a plan and they went to Bordeaux and were in the battle, doing exceptionally well for 50 minutes. Then there were two or three quick tries from turnovers and broken field rugby. Obviously Leicester fought back and got the attacking bonus point with their fourth try, which has been crucial when you look at how everything has panned out.
“Worst case scenario and you go to Toulouse and if you lose, you’ve not lost anything. You just wait for the seedings to find out where you sit.”
There is everything to play for in the final round of Investec Champions Cup matches, with seedings and qualification set to be decided across a thrilling weekend of action with every Champions Cup game live on Premier Sports across the weekend.
For Goode, a two-time winner of this competition, the end of the pool stages brings back plenty of memories, with his favourite surprisingly coming on a day when he missed a crucial drop goal.
Casting his mind back to his time at Wasps a decade ago, Goode recalled: “I would always want to know exactly what we needed. Sometimes when I was at Leicester, we were already qualified by round six.
“My favourite one and the one that sticks with me is my round six experience with Wasps in 2014/15, we played Leinster at the Ricoh. I think we knew that if we won that, we won the group. I had a drop goal right at the death to win it.
Relive the best tries of last weekend! 😍

“I don’t know whether we would have got a home quarter-final, but I do know that I got an awful pass off Joe Simpson, above my head, the drop of the ball, my fault, slipped out of the gloves a little bit. And then with the bounce of the ball, I missed to the right and we ended up drawing the game. It was a bit of a comeback from us, I kicked a conversion from the touchline for us to draw level, but then I missed the chance to win it with a drop goal.
“We wondered ‘what happens now?’. We went away to Toulon in the quarter-finals, who ended up winning the whole thing. You remember things like that, good and bad, and ultimately it’s a painful one because I missed a chance to beat Leinster at the Ricoh Arena. We all walked off the pitch and had no idea what that means.”
