It's February and the January transfer window is still open. Confused? Don't worry, we can help explain it all.

January is a notoriously tough market, with clubs unwilling to sell their star assets when there's still a chance of success - and desperate sides often being forced to pay over the odds as they make panic purchases in an attempt to breathe fresh life into their campaigns. This year has been no different, and patience has certainly been the name of the game for both Celtic and Rangers - who have both only made one addition each.

But there's all the drama of deadline day on the horizon to look forward to, and you can expect to see both clubs trying their best to add reinforcements for the run-in. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has been open about his desire to boost the club's attacking options following Kyogo's departure - even if Adam Idah is starting to look like a man worth the £9m fee. In Jota one former hero has returned meanwhile, and Hoops fans will still have hopes of seeing Kieran Tierney back in the green and white before the summer.

On the other side of the city Rangers are looking to bolster their defensive options with a loan deal for Chelsea's Aaron Anselmino; and RB Salzburg's Bobby Clark is also said to be of interest to Philippe Clement. The exit door could be about to swing open too; fringe men Kieran Dowall and Rabbi Matondo are already away, and rumours linking the enigmatic Cyriel Dessers with a return to Italian football won't go away.

Elsewhere, Aberdeen have been busier than most sides - shelling out healthy fees for Kristers Tobers and Alexander Jensen. But it hasn't stopped Jimmy Thelin's men from continuing their alarming drop in form - with a victory against Elgin City on Scottish Cup duty their only win since November. Hearts look to have turned a corner in the opposite direction and both the Jambos and city rivals Hibs now look good bets for a top six finish - despite disastrous starts to the season.

It could be a frantic end to the window and here, Record Sport tells you all you need to know about deadline day, including when the window shuts and how long clubs have to sign players.

When does the January transfer window close in Scotland?

There's a slight tweak for 2025 that gives SPFL clubs more time to sort their business this winter, with the window staying open until 11pm on Monday, February 3.

When does the January transfer window close in England?

Unlike in previous years, the Scottish and English windows will both shut at the same time, 11pm on February 3. Historically there had been minor differences, with Scotland's window extended until 11.30pm last winter - but that is no longer the case.

Can clubs sign players out with the January window?

For very last-minute deals, teams will be able to delay transfers by an hour if they can submit certain pieces of paperwork by the 11pm deadline on February 3. After that? Only players who were free agents when the window closed will be able to sign for top-flight sides.
