Timo Werner: Tottenham confirm loan signing of former Chelsea forward from RB Leipzig

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season.

The German international returns to the Premier League after a two-year stint at Chelsea, during which he won the Champions League.

Spurs are believed to be covering the 27-year-old’s wages in full for the duration of his time in north London, while there is an option to turn the deal into a permanent move for around £14.5million in the summer.

Werner stayed overnight at the club's Hertfordshire training base and completed his medical on Tuesday, and is expected to be in the squad for this weekend's clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

United had also expressed an interest in the forward, but a call with Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou helped convince Werner he could kickstart his career.

Werner struggled to wholly convince at Chelsea but is now expected to provide cover to Heung-min Son at Spurs. The forward could be unavailable until mid-February while he is away with South Korea at the Asian Cup.

Standard Sport also understands Tottenham are closing in on completing a move for Romanian international Radu Dragusin, with the Genoa defender set to sign for a fee in the region of £25m. Djed Spence could move the other way on loan.
