Today's rugby news as WRU board meet to discuss Gatland future and Wales star's name 'lifts everyone'
These are your headlines on the morning of Tuesday, December 17.
WRU board to meet today
Warren Gatland's future is set to be at the forefront of a crucial Welsh Rugby Union board meeting today.
Leading Welsh rugby figures will gather at the Principality Stadium today to discuss Gatland's position as head coach of Wales, along with the latest on a potential new Professional Rugby Agreement with the regions. Gatland is contracted until the end of the 2027 Rugby World Cup but his position as head coach is being scrutinised after a disastrous year which ended without a single Test match victory.

WRU CEO Abi Tierney has undertaken a review, with the help of Portas Consulting, into the reasons behind Wales' record 12 successive Test match defeats with players given anonymous questionnaires to fill in. Gatland's future will be discussed at today's board meeting but that doesn't necessarily mean the WRU will make a definitive decision to stick or twist.
If they decide to part ways with the 61-year-old, they would have to fork out considerable compensation, while they would be very unlikely to find a replacement in time for Wales' Six Nations opener against France in Paris on January 31.
But Gatland still has massive credit in the bank from his first stint in charge which yielded unprecedented success for the national side with many believing he is part of the solution not the problem.
Faletau's name 'lifts everyone'
Wales wing Alex Cuthbert has praised the returning impact of Taulupe Faletau - saying his name on the teamsheet "lifts everyone".
Faletau made his comeback for Cardiff last weekend - eight months since he last featured due to an arm injury.
The No.8 made it look like he'd never been away from the pitch, impressing the onlooking Wales coaching staff during his 50-odd minutes at the Arms Park in the win over the Cheetahs.
Cuthbert, who played with Faletau for the national team, says his mere presence gives those around him confidence.
"I just think, massively, Taulupe Faletau back, for me is just huge," he began on BBC's Scrum V podcast. "Chatting to Matt Sherratt in the week, he said just putting his name on the teamsheet just lifts everyone.
"As you soon as you see that name - Taulupe Faletau - you are like 'yes, we are going to be all right'. He is such an influential player in that squad."
Tiatia's praise for youngster
Dragons interim head coach Filo Tiatia praised the performance of young full-back Huw Anderson in the 22-14 win over Newcastle at the weekend.
The 20-year-old's solo effort sealed the memorable victory on the road for the Men of Gwent, running in from 70 metres out to score on the hour mark.
Anderson, who was called in by Wales to train with the senior squad in the autumn, "lit it up", according to Tiatia.
“I thought the young fellas who got an opportunity a lot of them stood out,” said Tiatia. “Overall, I’m happy, the majority of the squad have all had a crack and showed their hand.
“Huw Anderson certainly lit it up, he was exciting. We know what he can do, like most young guys they just need a chance and he was very good.
“Really happy for both Nicky (Thomas) and (Evan) Minto, I really admire the way they carry themselves as young men. I asked Minto how old he was and he’s still 18, it was a bit quicker than he was used to, so he got exposed to that intensity and speed.
“Really proud of Paula Latu, coming on after a short week, arriving Monday and able to front up and produce what he can do.”
Baxter: Jenkins raring to go
Exeter coach Rob Baxter says Wales man Dafydd Jenkins ins "raring to go" after making his comeback from injury.
Jenkins missed Wales' autumn campaign having undergone knee and shoulder surgery after the summer tour of Australia.
He made his first appearance of the season for the Chiefs at the weekend in he Champions Cup defeat to Toulouse.
“It’s fantastic for us, and obviously now he’s up and running,” said Baxter. “He’s had nearly half a half of rugby in him so hopefully he can he can press forward for the rest of the season.”
“It’ll benefit us as a side and the players around him,” Baxter added. “He’s a very good player and he’s raring to go. It’ll be nice to analyse his game now and see how well he’s done and it’ll be another step forward for us in the quality of our squad.”
