Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has spoken out on his "patience" with his role at the club in what can also be construed as a hint over Mauricio Pochettino's future as the club's head coach.

Pochettino has come under pressure at various points this season, with the Blues struggling in mid-table for much of the Premier League campaign. However, in 2024, things have been much better and going into the final day of the season, Chelsea are in sixth position and well set for qualifying for European competition.

Sixth is obviously not where Chelsea want to be in the long run, but the turnaround under Pochettino has been quite something, considering the calls for him to be sacked during the season.

Boehly has already sacked two managers - Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter - since taking over at the club from Roman Abramovich, having spent more than £1billilon on new signings. But Pochettino looks to have earned a second season with the club.

His future was never in doubt, if you listen to Boehly's recent comments. Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum, the Blues owner mentioned the early days of his tenure at the LA Dodgers baseball team and needing patience to succeed.

He said: "The number one thing is you've got to be patient. You're putting something together and you're expecting it to come together really quickly and the reality is that anything really good take a bit of time.

"So patience was always in our thoughts. When we bought the Dodgers, when we started the season in 2013, the team basically started 15 [wins] and 25 [defeats] and we were struggling. But we kept sticking to the plan and we knew that the plan, or we believed the plan was the right plan at the time and we went through a similar thing with Chelsea.

"You've got to have the resolve to not hear all the noise going on around you and at the same time remain patient and committed to the plan.

"Since Boxing Day we're the fourth best team in the Premier League, so when you look at what's going on it feels better and better."
