MacAnthony: We've asked for Ricky-Jade Jones back on loan

Peterborough chief Darragh MacAnthony has revealed his preference for Ricky-Jade Jones to go back on loan to Posh if he is sold this month.

The Bluebirds have had a bid turned down for the 22-year-old speedster and it's yet to be seen whether they will return with another bid this month.

And MacAnthony said Jones is "in demand" and anticipated interest in the forward this month, pre-empting his potential departure with the signing of Gustav Lindgren.

"The Ricky thing, we did a deal for him in the summer and the deal didn't happen for various reasons. Potentially the same club are in for him," MacAnthony said on this week's addition of Up The Poshcast.

"We have asked that if a deal is done, whether he could come back on loan for the rest of the season. But we always signed Gustav as a ready-made replacement for Ricky. We've spent half a million pounds on Gustav.

"Since then we have had another bid from a Championship club for Ricky. We turned that down."

Speaking about another Cardiff target, Hector Kyprianou, MacAnthony added: "It won't be a financial decision. It will be what is best for the club and the squad. Is it time for those players? Because you might be stopping those players getting good moves. And then are their minds on the job for the rest of the season?

"We need everyone rowing in the same boat. That's not a criticism of Ricky or Hector, but I need everyone going the same way."

On captain Kyrpianou specifically, MacAnthony said: "We are going to have to replace Hector eventually. I wanted to potentially bring that signing forward in January, but the manager said he's OK doing it in the summer. We pretty much know who we've identified to be Hector's replacement. So that might be a summer one.

"I don't think us staying in League One is dependent on Hector staying or going. I think the same regarding Ricky. I love Ricky, I'm a massive fan, I'd love to keep him. I actually think it's his breakout season where he'll score more goals than last year. I'm a realist, Hector is out of contract in the summer and he will be over 24. If the right offer comes in we will do the business."

Kanga has 'no future' at Hertha BSC

Reports in Germany state Cardiff loan man Wilfried Kanga has "no future" at Hertha BSC.

The striker has endured a nightmare loan spell in the Welsh capital, having failed to score in 16 appearances. Cardiff are in the market to bring in a striker this month but are wary about sending their own striker back to Germany if they don't have a replacement lined up.

It leaves the 26-year-old in limbo - and if reports in Germany are to be believed, his future is shrouded in doubt there, too.

Newspaper Der Tagesspiegel, per Sport Witness, states the Bundesliga 2 club do not see him as part of their plans.

Former Hertha BSC boss Pál Dárdai previous labelled Kanga as ‘lazy’ and rarely used him while in charge of the club and the report states that how he has fared at Cardiff has only added credence to the manager's comments.

It remains likely that Kanga will return to the German capital this month, where his contract runs until 2026, however the report states ‘he has no future’ in Berlin.

Roberts: Dalman letter a 'token gesture'

Ex-Wales forward Iwan Roberts has dubbed the Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman's letter to fans "a token gesture".

Dalman's outreach to fans came in response to a scathing open letter addressed to the board, which voiced "serious concerns" over the state of the Championship outfit.

Dalman stated that this January represented an opportunity to bolster the squad, which is much-needed with the threat of relegation looming. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Speaking to the BBC, Roberts said: "They've come out as a bit of a token gesture I feel. It's a bit too late for Mehmet Dalman to come out and he's talking about a relegation battle – I could have told you that a few weeks ago.

"They've got a massive, massive four months in front of them.

"They never speak to the fans. They never give them a plan or where the club's heading to, what they want to do, how they want to approach things and what their thoughts are about bringing a new manager into place."

Emphasising the disconnect, he added: "There's literally zero communication and that hurts football fans. They like to be involved, they like to feel a part of their football club.

"Because at the end of the day it is the fans' football club.

"I think it would be a great shout for the club to get somebody to sit on the board who has played the game, possibly played for the football club.

"But I think it would be a really good shout for them to get a football-minded person on board to guide them in the right direction."

Pundit sticks boot in on Cardiff

Sky Sports pundit and former West Brom striker Don Goodman has laid into Cardiff City, calling the club "a basket case" while saying he isn't surprised the Bluebirds find themselves near the bottom of the Championship.

It's been a disaster of a campaign for Cardiff so far, they sit 23rd in the division, sacked Erol Bulut and endured their worst start to a league season in 125 years.

The ex-Wolves and Sunderland man also claimed the club's indecision over appointing Omer Riza showed a "lack of faith" and urged the club to invest this month in order to get themselves out of trouble.

"Cardiff City has been a bit of a basket case of a club," Goodman told Plejmo.com. "Not just this season, but across the past few years, too. If I'm honest with you, I'm not surprised it's been a struggle for them this season.

"They had a solid campaign under Erol Bulut last year, but almost half of their 53 goals came from set-pieces. In my opinion, whilst they're a huge part of football, you can't rely on set-pieces to win games week-in-week-out. 16 goals from open play is a little better this season, but it's not enough in reality.

"The Bluebirds have struggled at both ends of the pitch. Only three sides have scored fewer goals than them and only three teams have conceded more goals. This tells me the whole team needs strengthening.

"Omer Riza did well, initially, when he came in but they then delayed appointing him permanently which showed a lack of faith and then, all of sudden, they're going nine games without a win and are back in the mire.

"I think they need a lot of new blood. Whether Vincent Tan will actually back them, however, is a different story. I do fear for them."
