Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Friday, December 20.

Potential investors told to look at Cardiff

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has told potential buyers that Cardiff City has "bags of potential" and would be a good opportunity for investors.

Vincent Tan has owned the club for 14 years and while we are continually told he has the passion and desire to take the club to a third stint in the Premier League, the perennial slide down the table has led some to question just how much longer he will want at the helm - with an exit out the bottom of the division far more likely than an avenue out of the top as things stand.

And former West Brom, Sunderland and Wolves striker Goodman believes Cardiff might be an appealing business venture for any would-be buyers.

"For me, one club whose fans would welcome new owners and has bags of potential is Cardiff City," Goodman told CoinPoker.

"It's a club that, not too long ago, was in the Premier League and, with Vincent Tan having been there for a long time, you wonder if he holds the same love and has the same ambition for the club that he once did. I'm not sure he's prepared to invest in the same way he previously did.

"Cardiff is the capital of Wales with a strong catchment area, a great academy and a good stadium, which are all factors that could appeal to high-profile owners."

Daland: We have the talent - but it takes time

Defender Jesper Daland insists that Cardiff have the talent to turn this winless run on its head and mount a charge up the table.

The Bluebirds centre-back has been used in a back three of late and looks like a solid acquisition. And while few thought this was a promotion-winning squad, it is a surprise to see Cardiff so low down in the table.

And Daland understands the frustrations from the outside, but the Norwegian believes that when things click fans will see a different Cardiff City. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

“There are a lot of new faces in the squad, me included, and sometimes it can take time," he said. "I’m in every day and can see the quality we have in the squad, I really do. I know the ambitions of the squad, so I’m pretty calm about everything.

“When we’re at a level we know we can be at, we’re really good. We’re pushing really hard in training and hopefully we can be a bit more consistent than we have been. We want to be better, we want the results to be better, but we’re working hard and in the end we will look back and it will be a good season.

"You can see the level in training, the size of the squad and there’s so many [players], it’s good competition for the spots, which is great. I think we need to push each other, help each other, so there are many players that have impressed me since I arrived here."

Sometimes it can be destabilising for a new player to come in and see the manager who brought him in get the sack after just six games. But Daland, who suffered the same fate when he arrived at Cercle Brugge, his last club, with the manager being sacked after two months, is happy with the work Omer Riza is doing.

"He is very passionate, very hard-working. The way he sees football is very positive," Daland said of Riza. "I think we all enjoy [playing under] him. He does a good job and I think he is the right man in charge now."

Defender reveals regret about time at Cardiff

Ibrahim Bakare has revealed his one regret while playing for Cardiff City.

The centre-back, who now plays alongside Cardiff youngster Joel Colwill at Cheltenham Town, joined the club in March 2021 amid interest from Stoke City and Wycombe and spent more than a year with the Bluebirds during a turbulent period.

And while he has now found his feet in senior EFL football, he regrets not following fellow centre-back James Connolly out the door on loan during his time at Cardiff, a decision he feels would have accelerated his development.

“Things settled down after Covid and clubs were more willing to take me in and see what I had to offer,” Bakare told GloucestershireLive.

“I felt I did well, but I regret not going out on loan that season because another centre-back my age James Connolly did, playing first- team football at Bristol Rovers and getting promoted. Joel Colwill was also there and had huge expectations on him because of his older brother (Rubin). They both really stood out and when I saw Joel again after signing for Cheltenham, it was a great, sort of full circle moment.”

Sheffield United injury blow

Sheffield United will be without top scorer Tyrese Campbell for the visit to south Wales tomorrow.

That will represent a blow for Chris Wilder's table-topping Blades but no doubt a boost for Cardiff - however the visitors will still have a familiar and fearsome foe in the form of Kieffer Moore in their ranks.

Plus, Wilder will welcome back two others for the trip to the Welsh capital. The returns of Anel Ahmedhodzic and Vini Souza, after ankle and hamstring issues respectively, boosts Wilder's options, but Femi Seriki is expected to miss out with a calf issue.

“Ty is not going to be available for the weekend, so that's a blow for us,” Wilder confirmed. “But as we have done over the last couple of months when we've had injuries, we've dealt with them pretty well and we'll have to do that. I'm not going to be a manager who sits here talking about injuries.

“They're part and parcel of the game. The ones we don't like are the ones we could have done something about. That was just unfortunate, Ty will work extremely hard and hopefully get himself back for the Burnley/West Brom/Sunderland trilogy we've got coming up.”
