Tsunoda thrown in by KVK

Ryotaro Tsunoda impressed on his second debut for KV Kortrijk after the Belgian club chucked him into the starting XI just days after sealing his loan transfer.

The Cardiff centre-back, who is yet to play for the Welsh club, was loaned out to KVK this week, with the Bluebirds hoping to create more room in their squad for transfers this month.

The Japanese defender earned plaudits for his first loan spell in Belgium last year before he sustained a horror hamstring injury in April and he had not played a competitive senior game since - until Friday's Kortrijk match. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Tsunoda started at centre-half and played the whole 90 minutes - quite the feat considering he had played just a couple of under-21s matches for Cardiff before Friday's Jupiler Pro League match against Standard Liege.

"Moving my life forward again," he wrote on Instagram.

According to WhoScored, Tsunoda was Kortrijk's second-best player with a rating of 7.45/10, only Abdelkahar Kadri (7.88) scored higher. However Kortrijk, who are 15th out of 16 teams in the Belgian top flight, lost the match 1-0.

Agent speaks out on Cardiff interest in midfielder

The agent of Poland international Jakub Kaluzinski has claimed Cardiff City were interested in signing the midfielder and were willing to pay more than £3m to sign him.

Reporter Reşat Can Özbudak, of Sports Digitale, has claimed Cardiff made an official bid for the Antalyaspor star, however the 22-year-old rejected the approach because he wanted to move to "a bigger club".

Scottish side Celtic were reportedly keen on the defensive midfielder in the summer, so, too, were La Liga side Real Valladolid, with a transfer fee of around £3.5m touted.

Polish outlet Meczyki state Cardiff were "willing to pay €3-4m" to sign the player this month, citing Daniel Weber from the INNfootball agency as saying: "It's true that there was such interest from the Welsh, but sportingly we are aiming at a completely different level today, so we were not interested in this."

Cardiff have taken a look at that base of midfield area and are hoping to strengthen there. Peterborough's Hector Kyprianou is one player who has been on the club's radar.
