Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Monday, February 10.

Etete's season goes from bad to worse

Kion Etete's nightmare season continues to worsen as he picked up a new injury after just one game for his loan club.

Etete was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers in the mid-season window and endured a poor start to life with the League One club, conceding a late penalty on debut which resulted in Reading securing a late 1-0 win over the Trotters.

And before the game against Crawley at the weekend, the 23-year-old, who managed just one cup appearance for the Bluebirds after being out all season with a hamstring injury, pulled out prior to kick-off with a muscle issue.

“He said he tried to pass a ball and just felt his left thigh tighten up, so we don't know the extent of that,” manager Steven Schumacher explained.

“But we'll have to get him scanned because with muscle injuries we can’t really take any risks.” Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Riza sweating on Daland after 'nasty'-looking injury

Omer Riza is sweating on the fitness of Jesper Daland ahead of the Championship clash with Portsmouth tomorrow night.

Daland endured a rotten trip to the Potteries at the weekend. He came on at half time, conceded a penalty and was subbed off injured, all within 12 minutes.

He was injured in the incident that led to the penalty and it could now see him miss the game against Pompey, meaning Dimitrios Goutas will likely be partnered by either Will Fish or Joel Bagan, unless Riza decides to drop Calum Chambers back into the back line. However, he will be reluctant to do so given how he has flourished in that midfield role of late.

"I've not seen it back, but Jesper said he kicked the ball, not the man, and the man has caught his leg. It's quite a nasty one," the manager said of the penalty and injury incident after the FA Cup win.

"It can happen. The downside to the cup game is injuries, but we have got a squad and the boys will have to get on with it.

"It's too early to tell now. We just have to get it seen to and we can discuss what the length (of time out) will be."

On the game itself, Riza said: "We'll recover properly. I think the togetherness is more important, coming through that [against Stoke], all the subs that were made and all the players that started.

"That togetherness to see us through to the end of the season - that could be a big turning point for us. We're already doing well but that togetherness is really important. Portsmouth lost to Sheffield United [in the Championship] so we've got one game in hand over them.

"We want to win every game, we'll go there with no other intention than to win. It's going to be a real tough battle, we know that, they've been really good at home but we know what we've got to do."

Murphy: It's a six-pointer and we owe them one

Former Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy has branded tomorrow night's clash a relegation six-pointer and believes Portsmouth "owe" the Bluebirds a performance after losing 2-0 in the Welsh capital earlier this season.

Cardiff are on a positive run of form, losing just once in their last 10 games in all competitions, a run which has seen them through to the fifth round of the FA Cup and elevate themselves to 19th in the table with a game in hand over many of their rivals.

But Murphy, who has been one of the more impressive players for Pompey this season, wants to take points off their rivals at the bottom of the division, even if he is coming up against some familiar faces.

He said: "I always look forward to playing against my old side and seeing familiar faces, staff and players. That’s always nice, but it’s business at the end of the day.

"We need the three points and this one is a six pointer - there’s no hiding away from it. We need to put in a great performance at home, get the points and then move forward. There’s been quite a few games this season where the manager has said before 'we owe these one'.

"Cardiff is definitely one where we owe them a performance, because the performance at their place wasn’t acceptable. We didn’t meet our standards, but if we can take how we played at Sheffield United into that game then hopefully it can be a special night."

Cardiff's next three games 'absolutely massive'

Former striker turned pundit and commentator Don Goodman believes the next three games are "absolutely massive" in the context of Cardiff's bid for survival.

The Bluebirds are in 19th position in the Championship but have a game in hand over a number of their rivals. Coming up this month is Portsmouth, Bristol City and Plymouth and Goodman believes they are like "three cup finals" that could decide their fate.

"Someone was going to be on the receiving end of a hammering at Elland Road, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that as a Cardiff City fan," Goodman told OLBG.

"Omer Riza will focus on the fact that his team were seven unbeaten before the Leeds game and that they managed to dig themselves out of a hole. They're still in a scrap but have a four-point cushion, which is what they'll be hoping to maintain.

"It could go down to the wire for Cardiff. They face Portsmouth away, Bristol City at home and Plymouth away, which are like three cup finals. If they can win two of those three, you'd fancy them to pull away. But Pompey are scrapping, Bristol City are pushing for the play-offs and Plymouth have been resurgent.

"The next three games are absolutely massive as they face Burnley and Sunderland after that and also have five games against teams who are in the top seven to come. They've lost seven and drawn two against top-seven games this season. It's an enormous run of games coming up for Cardiff."
