Robinson opens up on future

Derby-day hero Callum Robinson says he is unsure of what is happening with his Cardiff contract.

If Cardiff are to stay in this division and kick on further next season, they will need the quality and firepower of Robinson. His contract runs out at the end of the season and after notching his ninth and 10th goals of the campaign on Saturday, he is hitting some real form. He is one of a dozen Cardiff players whose deals expire at the end of the campaign. He said he has "loved" his time at the club, but is unaware of discussions happening over his future, with just five months remaining on his contract.

"I don't like getting involved in that. I've always been like that with my agent. I've been with my agent since I was 15, we've got that relationship, he will call me if something happens," he said.

"We will see what happens, I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes, I don't like all that. He knows that it affects me, he tried it once before when I was at Preston and I started wobbling! You can see with my performances on the pitch, I don't really know what's going on, I just have to keep doing my business and hopefully good things come.

"I've enjoyed my whole time here. Last year people were saying, 'Does he want to be at the club?' I never had an issue with the club or the fans. I scored goals at the start and then had a hamstring injury. Last year, obviously, was not to my standard, but I have loved it here and enjoyed my time here.

"I am enjoying my football at the moment. We are where we are, I'm an experienced player and from the ability we have in the team, we should definitely be higher up in the league. I'll just keep my head down, scoring goals and hopefully good things will happen."

Bagan: Best game I've had in blue shirt

Joel Bagan says the win over Swansea in the South Wales derby is the best game he's had for the club.

The left-back was introduced from the bench early in the piece, replacing the injured Callum O'Dowda. The youngster was straight into the action and produced an impressive display.

“That’s the best game I’ve had for Cardiff City,” he said. “The most enjoyable, and it’ll be one I remember for a long time. I’ve been here a while now around the first team; I’ve been waiting to beat Swansea, and this is the first time I’ve done it. The feeling is just indescribable.

“When you score, you have to be even more switched on. We reminded the midfielders and strikers to make sure that we’re solid, and luckily it was comfortable in the end. Robbo gets that second goal early after the first one, and then the third one goes in, and you can start to enjoy it and relax a little bit.”

Like Robinson said about Riza, Bagan says the players were extra motivated on the day to do their manager proud after an emotional few days off the field.

“We said before the game, we wanted to do it for Riz today. He’s had a tough few days with the news that he’s had. All the boys and staff have been there for him, sending him messages, popping into his office every morning making sure he’s ok, and you can see from the performance of everyone today that it meant a lot.

“The fans were great from the first minute. It’s the best I’ve seen them since I’ve been here. It was so loud from minute one, and even when it was 0-0, just hearing them made it so much easier.”

Riza told to phone LMA

Omer Riza has been told to get in touch with the League Managers' Association (LMA) for advice on how to deal with the fall-out from his red card in the South Wales derby.

Riza was given his marching orders having clashed with Swansea midfielder Goncalo Franco in the second half at Cardiff City Stadium.

The two collided on the sidelines, with Riza entering the field of play to remonstrate with the Portuguese. Former referee Keith Hackett believes Riza could be in trouble for his reaction.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hackett said: "Omer Riza lost it big time and his red card was correctly issued by the match referee.

“He will face a touchline ban and hefty fine. I suggest that the first opportunity he has he needs to be on the phone to the League Managers' Association where he will receive some advice on how to defend his actions.”
