Tonight's rugby news as 'outstanding' Wales star backed for Lions and club falls silent for Welsh icon
Here are your rugby evening headlines for Sunday, December 29.
Wales star backed to make Lions squad
Gloucester director of rugby George Skivington has backed Wales scrum-half Tomos Williams to tour with the British and Irish Lions in 2025.
The list of potential Welsh tourists in Australia next summer isn't the longest after a tough year, but Williams would certainly be towards the top after some standout performances since joining the Gallagher Premiership club.

And the Cherry and Whites boss believes there's a "really strong chance" Williams will be on the plane Down Under next year.
“Tomos has been brilliant for us this year, he has been outstanding on the field and off the field and I think he has really shown real good qualities as a rugby player and as a person," said Skivington.
“He goes from strength to strength. He had a great game on Friday night considering he’s been out for six weeks, or whatever it was; he managed to play 80 minutes and had some good touches that made a really big difference within the game.
“I think if he carries on playing this well and goes into the Six Nations and does it for Wales, I think he has got a really strong chance to be on that plane.”
Welsh club pay tribute to legend
Swansea RFC held a minute's silence for former Wales second-row Geoff Wheel ahead of their Super Rygbi Cymru clash with Aberavon at St Helen's on Saturday.
The former Swansea lock passed away on Boxing Day at the age of 73.
Wheel played 32 times for Wales between 1974 and 1982, forming a strong second-row partnership with Allan Martin.
Nicknamed 'Gaffa', Wheel was an unsung hero of Wales' successful sides of the 1970s - going 15 games unbeaten in a Welsh jersey between January 1975 and March 1978.
Ahead of their fixture against Aberavon, Swansea paid tribute to Wheel by holding a minute's silence.
And, a week on from losing 26-0 to the same opposition, the All Whites flipped the form book on its head - winning 10-8 in a hard-fought match to finally achieve their first victory of the season.
Welsh captain looks to 'put a few wrongs right' ahead of next derby
Dragons captain Angus O'Brien says the Gwent side will need to learn from their mistakes as they head straight into another festive derby.
Having let go of a 15-0 lead against Cardiff on Boxing Day, the Dragons now head to Llanelli on New Year's Day to take on the Scarlets.
After a 2024 that brought just four victories, O'Brien is desperate to defeat his former side on Wednesday.
“The Scarlets are playing well this season and will be bang up for it, just like we will be, so I am sure it’ll be another great Welsh derby,” said O'Brien.
“We’ll got there with confidence and to win, simple as that. We’ve got to go down there, give it our best shot and hopefully put a few wrongs right.
“There’s no better way [to get over Cardiff] than getting back out on the grass and playing again.
“They’ve had a few extra days of preparation but we are not even thinking about that. We want to have a crack at them and we will definitely be doing that.”
