Lake set to be available for Wales

Ospreys head coach Mark Jones says Dewi Lake is now expected to be available for some of the Six Nations.

A bicep injury to the World Cup co-captain had previously led supporters to believe he would miss the entirety of the upcoming championship, but Jones has shed new light on Lake's situation.

There's definitely no chance that Lake will play against France or Italy, but there's a possibility that he could become available to Warren Gatland later in the tournament, which would be massive for Wales.

"I have only been in text contact with Dewi and have not spoken to him face-to-face but the words from our physios, who are liaising with the Welsh medics, is he is progressing well," said Jones.

"They are hoping they can get him into a situation where he can play some rugby during the Six Nations which would be great.

"But we are all pretty keen to make sure that is not to the detriment of Dewi and he comes through this and is able to play for the rest of the season."

Lake was left out of the original Six Nations squad.

Coach hopes Ospreys form attracts support

Mark Jones also stated he's hopeful the Ospreys' improving form will attract more supporters.

The Swansea-based region hammered Benetton 43-0 at the Swansea.com Stadium, but there was a dismal atmosphere with less than 3,000 fans in the 21,088 seater ground. The official crowd of 2,832 was the lowest on record for an Ospreys match at the stadium as weather warnings, no away support and the fact the game was on terrestrial TV kept people away.

It highlighted why the Ospreys plan to leave the football stadium and play at St Helen's next season.

"It is our job to put a style of rugby on the field that people get excited about watching," said Jones.

"Winning rugby will pull people through the gates and watching a good style of rugby is important.

"We want to entertain more. If we are doing that and winning more than we are losing, there is no reason why you can't come down to the Swansea.com Stadium or St Helen's moving forward, or the Brewery Field if we end up there for games at any point.

"We want people to have a great day out and winning makes that better."

Ospreys are planning on moving to St Helen's next season, in what will be a much smaller capacity ground, but with a far better atmosphere.

Wales stars come through unscathed

Gloucester Rugby and Leicester Tigers' Welsh contingents appeared to come through unscathed from a 38-31 win for the home side.

Lock Freddie Thomas and scrum-half Tomos Williams started the match against Tigers, with Josh Hathaway coming on as a late replacement. Those three will link up with Warren Gatland and Co after the match ahead of Wales v France next week.

Gareth Anscombe and Max Llewellyn were also starters for Gloucester, but have not been named in the Six Nations squad for Wales.

Williams bagged a try himself thanks to some good work from Llewellyn, who fed his former Cardiff teammate with an offload to cap off a fine team try.

Anscombe threw an intercept to England international Mike Brown, who eventually set up Adam Radwan for his maiden score, after joining from Newcastle Falcons earlier this week.

Playing for Tigers on the day were Wales duo Nicky Smith and Tommy Reffell, who are both part of the Six Nations collective.
