Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Thursday, January 9.

Williams hoping to see more of Fisher

Luke Williams is hoping Andy Fisher will benefit from an increased amount of game-time at Scottish side St Johnstone.

Fisher completed a loan move to Saints on Tuesday evening, and will spend the rest of the season in Perth having seen his bid for minutes in SA1 severely hampered by injury.

"I think the best thing for Andrew Fisher to do at the moment is to play a lot of games," Williams said. "He's really talented and he's a gifted goalkeeper.

"I worked with him previously at MK Dons and I missed his time here, but I know he had some tough moments. Adapting to the Championship is really, really challenging. But that doesn't mean he's not a talented goalkeeper because he really is.

"But it would be great to see him play and it would be great for us to review him playing. It would be great for him to get back out there and get a fix and compete again.

"So I think it's going to be a really positive loan move for him and for the club. So I'm looking forward to seeing some of his action."

McLaughlin talks continue

Fisher's departure is likely to inject greater urgency around talks over a new deal for Jon McLaughlin.

The 37-year-old joined on a short-term deal in the summer, and his current contract is set to run out later this month.

Williams has already admitted he'd like to keep the veteran stopper on board, but says the club are yet to reach an agreement.

"There's been some conversation," Williams said. "We're a little bit in different places at the moment, so there's a bit more work to do.

"But Jon is terrific. He's really given a lot to the group and gives us a lot of maturity and quality. He's a very good goalkeeper.

"It's a tough gig [being a back-up keeper] but he handles it extremely well. There's a lot of thankless tasks that you have to do as a number two or number three goalkeeper. There's a lot of work that needs to be done that you don't get a huge reward for.

"But he's done it incredibly well and he's really added to the group. He's also a very talented goalkeeper and he's ready to play.

"He prepares himself every day and comes in correctly. He never has a bad day at training. Never has an off day. He does all the same work that Vigouroux does in terms of building up from the goalkeeper. He does the same work in practising how we defend in the line and his positioning is the same.

"He's shown he's ready and motivated to play."

Cabango making progress

Ben Cabango is making progress on his return from injury, but is still likely to miss the trip to Southampton in the FA Cup third round this weekend.

The defender limped out of the 4-0 defeat to Portsmouth on New Year's Day with a suspected groin issue, but could well be back in the frame soon.

"Ben's doing really well," the Swans boss said. "He's sleeping in an oxygen tent and everything, so he's recovering really well. He's been running today, so let's hope he makes steady progress and is on the path to recovery in the very near future.

"Sunday will be too soon. We have a day of rest tomorrow and then we have another day of training. So we'll see how he is tomorrow and whether he's joining training with the full squad on Saturday, but it may be too soon."

Goncalo Franco started the 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion, despite allegedly suffering a fractured jaw in the win over Luton Town, and Williams says he remains firmly in the first team picture.

"Goncalo's got a very soft diet at the moment," he added. "I'm sure he's still got some issue there, but he'll never tell us. But he's walking around the training ground smiling at everyone and kicking everyone in training. So he seems to be his normal self, to be honest."

Meanwhile, Josh Ginnelly and Sam Parker are also, according to their boss, making good progress on their respective recoveries from long-term injuries.

"They're doing so well," Williams added. "Doing so well. Training with the full squad. We're just trying to make sure that we don't give them the entire training programme of everybody else because we really want them to make a really good thorough recovery and start to contribute.

"I'm really happy because they're both in a really good place and they're both doing the majority of training now."

Ollie Cooper is also back on the grass after suffering a fracture in his foot back in November, but hasn't yet re-joined full training with the first team.
