Tottenham 4-1 Aston Villa: Dominic Solanke inspires Spurs to comeback victory
Tottenham came from behind to beat Aston Villa with big-money summer signing Dominic Solanke proving to be the hero of the afternoon by netting a brace.
The result means Spurs move up to seventh in the Premier League table, while Unai Emery’s side stay fifth having passed up the opportunity to leapfrog Arsenal.
After a cagey start to the game, Villa sent a warning to Spurs when Amadou Onana hit the post and from the resulting corner the deadlock was broken as Morgan Rogers poked the ball home from close range as the hosts conceded from yet another set-piece.
However, Tottenham equalised within minutes of the restart as Brennan Johnson got in front of Solanke to finish off Heung-min Son's teasing cross.
That proved to be the South Korean's last telling contribution as he was replaced shortly after by Richarlison, while Spurs suffered another injury scare when vice-captain Cristian Romero appeared to hurt himself in a tackle with Rogers.
Then in space of five minutes, Solanke took the game away from Villa to secure all three points for Spurs with two excellently taken finishes.
Substitute James Maddison then added gloss to the scoreline with a superb free-kick.
