Tottenham's search for a new centre-back goes on after seeing a late move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi knocked back. football.london understands the north London club enquired about the England international's availability this month but Palace do not want to lose him mid-season, with reports suggesting that an offer worth up to £70million was rejected.

Guehi has made a huge name for himself in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in the summer of 2021, thus coming to the attention of a number of top clubs in the process after delivering impressive displays for the Eagles on a consistent basis. Newcastle United were interested in signing him back in the summer but Eddie Howe's team had four bids rejected for the 24-year-old.

Guehi will once again be in the headlines in the summer regarding a Selhurst Park exit. A move away from the Eagles may well come to fruition prior to the 2025/26 campaign as the start of July will see him enter the final 12 months of his existing Crystal Palace contract.

Guehi will certainly not be short on suitors come the summer as it was reported at the beginning of January that former club Chelsea are keen on luring him back to Stamford Bridge. The defender is expected to be a summer target for a number of clubs, with the player certainly someone who should be at the top of Johan Lange's transfer list after enquiring about him in the winter market.

Tottenham have added to their defensive options following the signing of Kevin Danso from Lens on Sunday morning but the club still require an additional centre-back. Spurs had held talks with Chelsea over Axel Disasi but at this point they are not pursuing a loan move for the Frenchman.

Lange will have others names on his centre-back list and further opportunities could arise prior to Monday's 11pm deadline. The issue for Spurs right now is that they have been hit hard by injuries at the heart of defence.

Micky van de Ven was not involved in Sunday's game at Brentford as Postecoglou and the club decided to manage his minutes ahead of Thursday's Carabao Cup semi-final showdown against Liverpool. The extent of Radu Dragusin's knee injury will soon become clearly after coming off in the second half against Elfsborg last Thursday, with the head coach's comments on Cristian Romero's fitness indicating that a return date for the World Cup winner is still up in the air.

Tottenham will be boosted by the arrival of talented centre-back Luka Vuskovic in the summer. The young Croat has all the attributes to be a huge star for Tottenham in the future and he has so far made a huge impression during his loan spells with Radomiak Radom and Westerlo.

As part of the moves Tottenham have to make ahead of next campaign to strengthen their squad, Guehi should be Postecoglou's first summer transfer mission for Lange. Not only does the Crystal Palace defender have a wealth of experience in the top flight, he is an excellent defender and he would give Tottenham leadership qualities they lack after wearing the captain's armband for Crystal Palace with distinction.

While of course it is all about the here and now for Tottenham as they look to give the squad a much-needed boost for the remainder of the season, Guehi must be a transfer priority for the club in the summer as they bid to reach the next level.
