Tottenham have already overcome transfer challenge set out by Ange Postecoglou ahead of 2025
Tottenham are up and running in the January transfer market. The north London club added to their options in goal on Sunday morning after confirming the signing of Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague in a deal worth £12.5million.
The highly-rated goalkeeper has penned a long-term contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that runs until the summer of 2031. Highly regarded in his homeland of the Czech Republic, Tottenham now have a goalkeeper who can really push Guglielmo Vicario and challenge him for his place in the team over the coming years.
If he is immediately drafted into the team once his work permit is finalised, the 21-year-old will have a decent run of games to try and make the position his own before Vicario returns from his ankle injury at the end of February. Kinsky will not be able to feature in January's Europa League fixtures against Hoffenheim and Elfsborg, though, as changes to the European squad can only be made following the conclusion of the league phase.

Now that Tottenham have bolstered their squad with the signing of Kinsky, supporters will be hoping that a new defender, left-back and attacking additions sign on the dotted line before the month is out. January is usually a tricky month to deal in due to a lack of available players and clubs wanting sizeable transfer fees for members of their squad.
Postecoglou alluded to that just prior to Christmas when discussing transfers. One of the key points he made was that the 2025 winter transfer window would be "more challenging" due to the new format of UEFA's club competitions.
Previously seeing the group stage come to a conclusion in December, it's now not until the end of January when the league phase finishes as teams now face an extra two games before the knockout rounds commence.
"I think there's two different questions. I think improving the team may be a bit challenging, but improving the depth of our squad, I think there's always possibilities out there," explained the 59-year-old.
"I think it's a bit more challenging this January because of the way European football is set up. Because sometimes in January you would find maybe a couple of clubs out of Champions League contention that were thinking, well, you know what, we're not in the Champions League, so maybe just release a couple from our roster.
"So that doesn't exist now because all European competitions are kind of still in the balance. So that probably adds another layer of difficulty to it. But we'll endeavour because I think there's definitely a need for us to reinforce. We'll just see how successful we are in that."
Amid Postecoglou's comments when previewing the Boxing Day game against Nottingham Forest, Spurs have negotiated the challenge he described after signing Kinsky from Slavia Prague. The Czech side, just like Tottenham, are taking part in the Europa League at present and they're still in a position where they can secure a place in the knockout play-off round.
Slavia sit 29th from their first six games but they trail Elfsborg, who are in the final play-off place, by only three points with two fixtures remaining. PAOK and Malmo are to come for Slavia before the month is out, both of which are winnable fixtures with PAOK 22nd and Malmo 31st.
Despite still having the opportunity to advance and with Kinsky potentially key to their hopes, Slavia opted to part with the goalkeeper after agreeing on a £12.5million deal with Tottenham. Getting a taste of the competition in the first half of the season, the goalkeeper will want to do likewise from February onwards if Spurs are to make it to the next stage of the competition.
Having completed the signing of Kinsky, Tottenham's next challenge is to add to their numbers with so many players still in the treatment room at present.
