Tottenham to assess Micky van de Ven after hamstring injury scare

Tottenham face a nervous wait to discover the full extent of Micky van de Ven’s hamstring injury.

The Spurs centre-back was forced off in the second half of Sunday’s 4-0 win against Aston Villa and is due to be assessed early this week.

Ange Postecoglou said after the game that Van de Ven “does not think it is anything too significant” and Tottenham are hopeful he will not face another long spell out.

Van de Ven missed two months earlier this season after snapping his hamstring against Chelsea in November.

He appeared to feel his hamstring in the first half at Villa Park and went down early in the second half, when he was replaced by Radu Dragusin

The Tottenham squad are due to be off on Monday but Van de Ven could be called in to be assessed by the Spurs medical team.

Van de Ven was outstanding for Spurs at Villa Park before he went off and, alongside centre-back partner Cristian Romero, could be key to their hopes to finishing in the top four.

Tottenham face Fulham away on Saturday and then do not have a game for two weeks until they host Luton on March 30.

It remains to be seen if Van de Ven will join up with the Netherlands squad for their upcoming games against Scotland and Germany.

Postecoglou said on Sunday: “He does not think it is anything too significant.

“So disappointing for him because he was outstanding again up until that point.

“Great for Radu to come in, his first significant game-time in a big game and I thought he handled it really well.”
