Former Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm has carved out a new career as a diamond dealer since retiring from football.

The ex-Netherlands international was part of the Spurs squad that defied the odds to reach the 2019 Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino. Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool defeated the north Londoners 2-0 to lift the European crown, and Vorm hung up his gloves the following year.

And while many ex-professionals may find themselves twiddling their thumbs in retirement, that hasn't been the case for the Dutchman. In fact, Vorm has found himself in another lucrative profession after getting involved in the diamond and jewellery industry.

"I’m an investor for one of the biggest diamond companies in Europe, it’s called Gassan," he told football.london, in partnership with 888sport. "We do a lot of [footballers] in Holland. [And] we provide jewellery, watches for a lot of players in the Premier League."

It's fair to say footballers' tastes for the finer things mean the business won't ever find itself lacking clientele. And the Dutch links currently in the Premier League mean Vorm has plenty of compatriots who may yet turn into potential customers.

Vorm, 41, officially retired in October 2020, but it was only six months or so before he found his first coaching position at Tottenham under interim coach Ryan Mason. He left that position in June 2021 but still commands a lot of respect at his old club, despite making only 48 appearances over six years after joining from Swansea City in 2014.

Amsterdam-born Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch was still on the books at Ajax when he became an ambassador for Gassan. Netherlands team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo are also based at Anfield and may find themselves perusing wares Vorm had a hand in procuring.

Gassan - which was founded in 1945 - is also the official timekeeper for 14 Dutch football clubs. That list includes the likes of PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar, Utrecht and Arne Slot's previous club, Feyenoord.

The watch specialists also recently honoured the Netherlands women's football team, where Dutch FA technical director Nigel de Jong was in attendance. Ronald Koeman, current manager of the men's national team, was another famous footballing figure who recently received a tribute from the jeweller's.

As well as getting involved in the world of glitz and glam, Vorm is the proud owner of a men's barber club named Maeson's. Based in his native Utrecht, the venture describes itself as "the ultimate men's experience," and in Vorm's words, functions as "more than your average barber."

The 2010 World Cup finalist has yet to take on another coaching position but displays a distinct hunger to stay close to the sport that made him a household name. Not to mention Gassan couldn't have a much safer pair of hands guarding their gems.
