Tottenham get fresh injury boost ahead of crunch week for Ange Postecoglou after James Maddison blow
Tottenham have been boosted by the fitness of Richarlison ahead of a crunch run of games for Ange Postecoglou.
Richarlison was forced off in Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Leicester and Postecoglou confirmed after the game that the Brazilian was substituted because he “was feeling his groin”.
But Richarlison trained with the Spurs squad on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League game with Elfsborg on Thursday.
Losing Richarlison would have been another hammer blow for Postecoglou, who confirmed last week that Dominic Solanke is out for six weeks with a knee injury.
The Richarlison fitness boost comes after reports emerged on Tuesday that James Maddison is facing three weeks out with a calf injury.
Yves Bissouma also trained with the Spurs squad on Wednesday but Djed Spence and Pape Sarr were absent.
Spence missed the Leicester defeat and Postecoglou said the midfielder “shouldn't have played” in that game.
Micky van de Ven trained with the squad after his return to fitness, while Cristian Romero worked in the gym as the two centre-backs close in on a return.
Neither Van de Ven or Romero are expected to face Elfsborg but Postecoglou will hope they will be fit for two crucial cup games next week against Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Spurs travel to Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday before the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield next Thursday.
They are then away at Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round next Sunday, with those two cup games looking vital for Postecoglou as he fights for his future.
