New Tottenham hamstring injury shows nobody can escape this season's misfortune
Alfie Devine has become the latest Tottenham player to be stricken by a hamstring injury to show that even playing in Belgium does not allow you to escape the current curse afflicting the north London club.
The 20-year-old has been catching the eye this season while out on loan at Westerlo in Belgium, making 21 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League side and scoring four goals from the midfield, earning plenty of plaudits for his performances. He has been playing in the same team as 17-year-old centre-back Luka Vuskovic, who will join Tottenham this summer once he has turned 18.
Devine has impressed Ange Postecoglou in both pre-seasons he's had under the Australian but the packed nature of Spurs' midfield meant it was decided that his development would be better served out on loan. Last season the midfielder spent the first half of the season at Port Vale before jumping up a level to Plymouth in the winter window.

This season the youngster has been gaining European experience with his loan at Westerlo and had managed to find a real rhythm to his game, starting every single Jupiler Pro League match this season, after coming off the bench at half-time in his first match just days after joining.
However, that rhythm came to an end early on in Sunday's 4-2 win at home against Standard Liege as the midfielder pulled up after just 24 minutes with a hamstring problem in his left leg. Scans this week confirmed the injury and football.london understands Devine is set to miss four to six weeks of action.
Tottenham have suffered plenty of injuries this season, with most matches in recent months bringing a list stretching into double figures of unavailable players. There have been a string of hamstring injuries among those issues for Postecoglou and the irony is that had Devine remained at Spurs he would have got plenty of game time this season. However, the young midfielder's experience in Belgium will also prove invaluable going forward in his career regardless of this setback.
