The North London Derby is the fixture both Arsenal and Tottenham supporters look for first when the new season's calendar is announced. The first one of the season went the way of Arsenal, giving the team in red the bragging rights once more.

Now Tottenham are looking for revenge, but history is against them, with their last Premier League win at the Emirates Stadium coming in 2010. They did, however, win at the home of their fierce rivals in the Carabao Cup in 2018.

And while history may be against them, there is something of an omen from this season potentially in Spurs' favour.

The Gunners are battling Liverpool at the top of the table for the Premier League title. But they remain in a chasing position, with the Reds having been top of the table since gameweek 10.

Arne Slot's side have opened up a healthy lead at the top of the table, six points ahead of second-placed Nottingham Forest and seven ahead of third-placed Arsenal.

The Gunners can cut that gap to four points with a win in the North London Derby on Wednesday night, however. Although they will then have played a game more than Liverpool once again.

What works in Tottenham's favour, however, is the fact that Arsenal have not always taken advantage of Liverpool's slip-ups so far this season. Liverpool drew 1-1 away at Forest on Tuesday night, opening up the opportunity for Mikel Arteta's men to close the gap at the top of the table by two points.

Only twice when Liverpool have dropped points this season have Arsenal taken advantage. That was when the Reds drew 3-3 with Newcastle United and Arsenal went on to beat Manchester United 2-0 and also when Liverpool lost to Forest earlier on in the campaign and Arsenal beat Spurs in the first North London Derby.

Prior to that, there were three other occasions Arsenal could have taken advantage of Liverpool slips, but failed to do so.

On December 7, Liverpool did not play because Storm Darragh postponed their Merseyside Derby with Everton. Arsenal could only draw 1-1 with Fulham. Then on December 14, Liverpool drew 2-2 with Fulham, but Arsenal failed to capitalise with a 0-0 draw with Everton.

On January 5, things were reversed somewhat. Arsenal played first, drawing 1-1 with Brighton, as Liverpool then went on to draw 2-2 with Manchester United.

Despite the Reds opening the door on numerous occasions, Arsenal have refused to walk through it. Could Tottenham capitalise tonight, with another golden opportunity for the Gunners to make up ground on the Reds?
