Tottenham issues Rodrigo Bentancur update after deeply concerning injury vs Liverpool
Tottenham has confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur is conscious after he suffered a worrying-looking injury during the opening minutes of Spurs' Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.
Bentancur went down unchallenged in the Reds' penalty area as he stooped to attempt to get his head on a corner taken by teammate Pedro Porro, but panic quickly ensued when the Uruguay international did not return to his feet.
Porro noticed something was awry within seconds and sprinted over to Bentancur, signalling the need for the Uruguay international to be seen to by medics, before other players from both teams cottoned on to the graveness of the situation and also joined in the please for medical help.

Doctors remained with Bentancur inside the Spurs dressing room at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the half-time whistle, which was blown around 50 minutes after the injury had taken place.
During half-time, Spurs issued a short statement which said: "We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking and will go to hospital for further checks."
Soccer fans on social media issued messages of support to Bentancur during the first half. One wrote: "Jeez I hope Bentancur is alright. That looks seriously worrying. Something no football fan wants to see regardless who you support. Thoughts with the lad." Another said: "I’ve just seen the replay of Bentancur going down and it looks awful bless him. Really hope he’s okay."
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot had to contend with an injury to one of his own players during the first half, although in far less concerning circumstances, as midfielder Wataru Endo was called on to replace Jarell Quansah at center-back.
Quansah has barely figured for Liverpool under Arne Slot but his injury will be a concern considering fellow center-back Joe Gomez is also currently sidelined, leaving Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as the Reds' only fit central defenders as the team continues to battle for glory on all four fronts.
