Tottenham next five fixtures compared with Premier League relegation rivals
Tottenham Hotspur are in a relegation battle. It is as simple as that.
When you lose back-to-back games against two of only five teams below you in the league table and have also dropped points against two of the others in matches earlier in the season, you cannot get away from it.
Spurs followed up a shocking 3-2 defeat to Everton, in which they were 3-0 down at half-time and could have been more than three behind, with a dismal 2-1 reverse at home to Leicester City on Sunday.

The injury crisis in N17 and the lack of transfer activity means there is a lack of rotation amongst players who are playing two games a week most weeks. Spurs have already played 34 matches this season and we're not even in February.
Ten first team players are currently sidelined with injury, although some are close to returning.
There are 15 games of the Premier League season to go, meaning there is still plenty of time for Tottenham to get out of the hole they are in. But things do not get any easier in the coming weeks and they could be sucked even further into a relegation battle, looking at the fixture list.
Tottenham's next five matches
Sunday, February 2 - Brentford (A)
Sunday, February 16 - Manchester United (H)
Saturday, February 22 - Ipswich Town (A)
Wednesday, February 26 - Manchester City (H)
Sunday, March 9 - Bournemouth (H)
A short trip to Brentford next up does not look inviting, although the Bees' form of late has been mixed. A resurgent Man Utd then come to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before a massive trip to Ipswich. Man City at home and then high-flying Bournemouth at home look tough too.
Let's compare that to the teams below Spurs in the table.
Ipswich fixtures
Saturday, February 1 - Southampton (H)
Saturday, February 15 - Aston Villa (A)
Saturday, February 22 - Tottenham (H)
Wednesday, February 26 - Manchester United (A)
Saturday, March 8 - Crystal Palace (A)
Wolves fixtures
Saturday, February 1 - Aston Villa (H)
Sunday, February 16 - Liverpool (A)
Saturday, February 22 - Bournemouth (A)
Tuesday, February 25 - Fulham (H)
Saturday, March 8 - Everton (H)
Leicester fixtures
Saturday, February 1 - Everton (A)
Saturday, February 15 - Arsenal (H)
Friday, February 21 - Brentford (H)
Thursday, February 27 - West Ham (A)
Sunday, March 9 - Chelsea (A)
Everton fixtures
Saturday, February 1 - Leicester (H)
Wednesday, February 12 - Liverpool (H)
Saturday, February 15 - Crystal Palace (A)
Saturday, February 22 - Manchester United (A)
Wednesday, February 26 - Brentford (A)
The thing that strikes you from those fixtures is this weekend's coming games. Four of the teams below Spurs play each other, meaning not all four can lose. Two teams could gain ground on Tottenham if they lose to Brentford, while four could gain a point on Spurs if Postecoglou's team lose and the matches between Leicester and Everton and Ipswich and Southampton end in draws.
Thereafter, it looks like there are some tricky runs coming up for the teams chasing Tottenham too. Spurs should not be finding themselves in this situation though.
