Tottenham player ratings vs Arsenal - Bergvall excellent, Gray battles, Kulusevski and Porro poor
Tottenham lost 2-1 at Arsenal in the latest north London derby in the Premier League on Wednesday night and here are our Spurs player ratings.
Lucas Bergvall got another start in a big game with Pape Matar Sarr keeping his place from Sunday, while James Maddison was on the bench alongside the returning Richarlison. Antonin Kinsky started his third game for Tottenham since his move from Slavia Prague after a month without football as the Czech league paused in mid-December.
Arsenal initially pinned Spurs back but the visitors began to look more dangerous as the first half wore on and took the lead when a corner was headed out to Son Heung-min and he side-footed it via a deflection into the bottom right corner of the net from the edge of the box.
An own goal levelled matters as Radu Dragusin beat Gabriel to an Arsenal corner but headed it against Dominic Solanke and into the Spurs net. It all came from a corner that shouldn't have been given as the ball bounced off Leandro Trossard and out of play.
Arsenal then went ahead before the break when Yves Bissouma was dispossessed and the ball was worked to Trossard and his shot bounced right in front of Kinsky and the young goalkeeper only got fingertips to it as it went in.
The second half brought little in the way of chances and quality and although Pedro Porro hit the right-hand post late on, Spurs did not do enough to turn the game around.
Here are our Tottenham player ratings:
Antonin Kinsky
Had plenty of set pieces to deal with early on and was tackled by Havertz 15 minutes in but regained the ball. Couldn't do much about Arsenal's equaliser but will be disappointed with Trossard's goal which bounced in front of him. Saved from Rice in the second half but didn't have much else to do. Much of his work with the ball at his feet was good despite the crowd's best efforts. He'll be replaying that Trossard shot though over and over in his head tonight because it ended up being key. 5
Pedro Porro
Caught up the pitch for the second goal after Bissouma lost the ball. Didn't offer much else before hitting the outside of the post in the 94th minute. 4
Radu Dragusin
Made an important block with his back from Trossard early on. Was unfortunate with the first half equaliser, beating Gabriel to the ball but heading it against Solanke himself and in. 6
Archie Gray
Easy to forget he's just 18-years-old and this was another mostly impressive display with neither goal his fault. 7
Djed Spence
Got up and down the left flank as much as he could but did get dispossessed a couple of times in key areas, Bergvall having to bail him out on a couple of occasions. 6
Pape Matar Sarr
Struggled to make an impact in the first half, picked up a yellow card, and was taken off at half-time. 4
Yves Bissouma
Couldn't keep his recent run of good form running and gave the ball away crucially for Arsenal's second goal. Was hooked at the break. 4
Lucas Bergvall
Started the game in a more advanced role but played the second half as the six and he bailed his team-mates out a few times. A first north London derby for the 18-year-old and he took it all in his stride. Spurs' best player on the day and he needs to keep starting games. 8
Dejan Kulusevski
Tested Raya with a shot in the first half but this was one of his most ineffective performances this season. Unusually weak on the ball. 4
Dominic Solanke
Gabriel beat him to a big chance in the first half with an excellent sliding tackle. Sent a late overhead kick wide but he wasn't good enough on the ball with the little service he got. 4
Son Heung-min
Controlled a side-footed shot from the edge of the Arsenal box that took a deflection on its way into the bottom right corner of the net. Struggled to hold up the ball when it came to him but the same could be said of all Spurs' attackers. Gets two extra points for the goal. 6
Subs
Brennan Johnson
Offered very little. 4
James Maddison
Offered only a tiny bit more. 5
Richarlison
Good to see him back but he couldn't find a way through late on. N/A
