Tottenham set for Man Utd showdown as new signing speaks out
It proved to be a mixed week for Tottenham Hotspur Women as they recorded victory in the Women's Super League but crashed out of the FA Cup in the fourth round of the competition. Victorious at Crystal Palace in the league last Sunday following a 3-2 triumph, Spurs were on the losing side on Wednesday evening as Everton progressed through to the next stage of the FA Cup after claiming a 2-0 win.
Amid the disappointment, head coach Robert Vilahamn will be looking for his side to get back on track this weekend when they return to league action. However, that is going to be some challenge as they welcome second-place Manchester United to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Ahead of Sunday's match, football.london takes a look at all the big news emerging from N17 over the past few days.

FA Cup disappointment
Tottenham's FA Cup journey came to an end on Wednesday evening following a 2-0 defeat at Everton. Kelly Gago put the hosts in front three minutes after the restart with a goal from a tight angle, before Heather Payne completed the scoring later in the second half.
Speaking after the game, Vilahamn was obviously disappointed to lose on Merseyside but one positive he could take from the game was that plenty of his players got minutes in the tank.
“I really like to see the players who haven’t got a lot of minutes get them because I feel like it’s a great chance for them to get going and show me where they’re right now, and many of them are doing some good minutes today," he said in an interview with SPURSPLAY. "It’s good for the squad to make sure we can go into the game on Sunday and the rest of the season with all the players actually playing so, in one way, it’s really good.
"Obviously it’s the FA Cup, you want to make sure you go to the next round, this year wasn’t for us for different circumstances, but we’re going to make sure we’re sad and angry today, tomorrow we will rest and recover, and then Friday is full focus on the game for Sunday as it’s a big game for us.”
Next up for Spurs
Following the team's FA Cup defeat at Everton, Spurs return to action on Sunday with a home showdown against Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It's going to be a very interesting game in the capital as Spurs need the points to try and overtake Brighton & Hove Albion in fifth place, with the visitors also requiring a win to keep up the pressure on current league leaders Chelsea.
Vilahamn is certainly looking forward to his team playing in front of a big crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He said: “It’s going to be amazing to meet our fans at that stadium, we have a big game and I want to make sure everyone comes and watches the game because we have some good self-confidence in the league, good form in the league, so we will make sure to go into that game and go for the win.”
New signing speaks
Josefine Rybrink is now a Tottenham player after signing a deal until the end of the 2024/25 campaign on Monday. The centre-back makes the move from Swedish side BK Hacken and she has taken on the No.12 shirt.
“I’m so excited to be here,” the Swedish star told SPURSPLAY. “It’s a big club, so to be able to move here and come to this club, I’m looking forward to it. I think I have been taking good steps in my career all the time and I feel like this is the right way to go, where I can really develop as a player and as a person here.
“I have heard so much about it (the WSL), it’s a really good league and I think it will suit me very well, all the games are really competitive, a lot of tough games, so I’m really looking forward to playing against the best players in the world.”
Holdt impact
Olivia Holdt proved to be the hero last Sunday with a last-minute winner for Tottenham in their 3-2 victory at Crystal Palace. After letting a two-goal lead slip following Bethany England's first-half double, Holdt stepped off the bench and made it a debut to remember by curling in a stoppage-time free-kick to win the game.
“I think Anna [Csiki] described it really well in the interview after the game, it’s like a dream and it’s the best thing to have ever experienced, to come on for your debut and to score the winning goal to help the team win the game and the three points,” the Denmark international told the club's official website.
“I didn’t think I was going to take the free-kick, I grabbed the ball to give it to one of the other girls as I thought there would have been some sort of agreement, so I didn’t think I was going to take it.
“However, I trusted myself that I could score from there, as I have done it a few times before, so it was good from the team that they trusted me and for Anna to give me the ball because I’m sure she would have done the same."
