Tottenham Hotspur appear to have been dealt a blow to their hopes of a takeover. In the summer, Amanda Staveley emerged as a shock contender in the race to buy the north London outfit.

According to Bloomberg in July, the 51-year-old, who had recently stepped down from the Newcastle United board, identified Tottenham as a possible target as she looked for her next investment opportunity. The report stated that Staveley raised around £500m ($649m) through her investment fund PCP Capital Partners in preparation of a potential bid.

It's said that she even held 'initial discussions' to buy a minority stake with Rothschild & Co – an adviser to the Lilywhites. Bloomberg also claimed that AS Monaco was also on Staveley's radar before adding that all considerations were at an early stage and may not lead to any transaction.

Nevertheless, the former Newcastle chief has been heavily linked with a takeover of Tottenham ever since – but, now, she may no longer be a potential suitor. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up everything you need to know about the future of Daniel Levy's ownership.

Staveley talks and Qatari offer

According to City AM, Staveley has been offered an advisory role by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation ahead of the 2034 World Cup. The report states that the Saudi Arabian FF are currently assembling organising committees after their unopposed bid was approved by acclamation at FIFA's Extraordinary General Meeting in December.

It's said that Staveley will not be given a formal position, but she's 'likely to be used as a sounding board given her contacts at European clubs'. The World Cup in Saudi Arabia will, controversially, force European clubs to radically reorganise their fixture schedules over two seasons to accommodate a winter competition in the Middle East.

As it stands, it remains to be seen whether or not this could stop Staveley from taking on her next project. If she were to accept a role at the Saudi Arabian FF then she'd be very busy in the nine-year build-up to the 2034 World Cup.

Jay-Z considered Tottenham bid

Jay-Z was once reportedly preparing a takeover bid for Tottenham Hotspur in the event that Lewis decided to sell the club. Speaking to the Express in July 2023, a close business associate of the American rapper said: "More than a few of the very top clubs there – like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea – are now under US ownership and Jay would jump at the chance of a controlling interest at board level somewhere with the global reach of Spurs."

Ex-F1 chief eyed Premier League takeover

Speaking to Walker & Dunlop in June 2023, Greg Maffei revealed that he has considered buying a Premier League club. The ex-president and chief executive officer of Liberty Media, who owns Formula One Group, said: "That demonstrated success of Formula One, we now have - credit them - a reputation sports and others we have talked to, we can replicate that.

"You mention the Premier League teams; there isn't an asset we haven't looked at. That doesn't mean we've been ready to buy them all but we look at everything because we do think sports in general is attractive, we do think there are upsides and do think those things that management teams have taught up can help apply perhaps in other sports situations."

Qatari billionaire 'weighed up' swoop

Sheikh Jassim was once widely regarded as the frontrunner in the race to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family. Unfortunately for the Qatari billionaire, Sir Jim Ratcliffe crushed his dreams of buying a Premier League club after acquiring a minority stake.

After his £5bn buy-out proposal went to waste, Sheikh Jassim has continued to be linked with a takeover of Tottenham. In June 2023, ESPN journalist Mark Ogden told 'The United Stand' that the Qatari was 'weighing up a move' for the Lilywhites.

"They want the Premier League footprint," he said. "Somebody told me recently, they said that if the Qataris don't buy Man United, they'll be back and they might end up buying Tottenham."

NBA and F1 boss prepared mega offer

According to the Financial Times in February 2023, as quoted by the Evening Standard, Jahm Najafi was preparing a £3.1bn takeover bid to buy Tottenham. The report stated that the Iranian-American billionaire was working with a consortium of investors to structure an offer.

It was said that Najafi was 'weeks away' from presenting Lewis and Levy with a formal approach – but a bid failed to materialise. The Financial Times claimed that the 61-year-old, who is the vice chairman of the Phoenix Suns in the NBA and McLaren Racing, valued the north London outfit at approximately £2.5bn before adding around £620m of debt onto the club.

When Warren vs Sugar ended in knockout...

And finally, speaking on 'That Peter Crouch Podcast' in May 2024, Frank Warren claimed he almost beat Sir Alan Sugar to a deal for Tottenham Hotspur in 1991. The Boxing promoter and lifelong Arsenal fan said: "I nearly did, I nearly did with Terry Venables years ago. I actually got the thing together for him to get involved with Spurs.

"We did that in my box at the old Arsenal Stadium. We sat down and we were going to do the deal with Irving Scholar and Tony Berry, who was a director there at the time. We were quite close and the person who was going to fund it literally disappeared and he went and done the deal with Alan Sugar."
