Tottenham make Timo Werner future 'decision' ahead of January transfer window
Tottenham have reportedly made a decision on the future of forward Timo Werner ahead of the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old first moved to the Premier League in 2020 when he joined London rivals Chelsea from RB Leipzig. After a difficult two years, he returned to his former club in Germany.
In January 2024, Spurs signed him on a loan deal until the summer of 2025, but much like his previous spell in England, Werner has struggled for form. He has scored just three goals and registered six assists throughout his 12 months in north London so far.

According to German outlet BILD, it is extremely unlikely that Spurs will exercise the €12m purchase option in Werner's loan deal. However, a return to Leipzig is January is not on the cards as he is expected to see out his contract until the end of the season.
Where his future lies beyond that remains to be seen. Werner is under contract at Leipzig for at least another season as his deal expires in 2026.
The article states Leipzig do not want to pay the €10m annual salary he currently earns, which suggests another loan move or permanent deal would be the preferred option in the summer. However, it remains to be seen how many clubs would be eager to sign him based on his disappointing time with Spurs.
Earlier this month, Werner was called out by manager Ange Postecoglou for a sub-par performance against Rangers in the Europa League. The striker was withdrawn at half time and the manager said after the game: “He wasn’t playing at anywhere near the level he should be.
“Timo’s first-half performance was not acceptable to me. I told Timo that he’s a German international, that I need everyone to be trying to give their best and this wasn’t an acceptable example. I expect a lot more from the senior guys."
