Tottenham transfer plans confirmed as Ange Postecoglou hunts January signings

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Tottenham plan to reinforce their squad with new signings in January.

Spurs are currently 11th in the Premier League table ahead of their Boxing Day clash away at in-form Nottingham Forest and have suffered a large number of injuries and suspensions to first-team players in recent weeks.

That has forced Postecoglou to trust a small number of available players and denied him the ability to rotate his squad.

Last season, Spurs also felt the need to bolster their squad in January and signed centre-back Radu Dragusin from Genoa for £21.5million and Timo Werner on an initial six-month loan from RB Leipzig, which was extended by a full season in the summer.

“I think, yeah, reinforcement,” Postecoglou said about Tottenham’s January transfer plans ahead of the festive trip to Forest.

“Like I said a while ago, we've been planning. A lot of it was going to be around where we're at around this time. [It’s] fair to say we're still a little bit short in a couple of areas and we need to reinforce.

“But January is trickier in terms of what sort of players you can bring in. For us, ideally - for any club, I guess - you want to bring in people who are going to make you stronger.

“I think the fact that, obviously, we're still in the Carabao Cup semi-final, still got Europe, FA Cup, we're in all the competitions, it's not like our schedule's going to ease up at any stage. So I think it makes sense.

“We will try and reinforce. Where and what number, we'll have to wait and see.”

Asked how Tottenham can marry together the dual objectives of needing to recruit the right players but also get them signed early in the window, Postecoglou replied: “That is the balancing act.

“You don’t just want to panic and bring in anybody that you don’t think will help our cause in the back half of the year, but I think we’ve already shown we are pretty methodical and prudent about our work. We’ll make sure we’ll bring somebody in who is going to help us.”
