Tottenham vs Wolves LIVE!

Wolves put a dent in Tottenham’s top-four ambitions as Joao Gomes scored twice in an impressive 2-1 away victory in the Premier League on Saturday.

Gomes headed Wolves in front shortly before half-time and struck again in the 63rd minute after Dejan Kulusevski had equalised immediately after the break.

It was Wolves' fourth win in their last six Premier League games at Tottenham and completed the double this season after their victory at Molineux in October.

Defeat, combined with Aston Villa's win at Fulham, dropped Tottenham down to fifth place with 47 points from 25 games. Wolves moved into 10th with 35 points.

Thanks for following along with today’s live blog!

Tottenham lost their grip on fourth place after being subjected to an away-day masterclass by Wolves.

Gary O’Neil’s side required only 30 per cent possession to secure a 2-1 win in north London on Saturday, with Joao Gomes netting twice either side of Dejan Kulusevski’s leveller.

Some cultured touches, as is always the case, but Maddison was underwhelming here.

Heung-min Son 5

Damning stats for Spurs

16:00

This is the fourth home game in a row where Tottenham have conceded the first goal.

That is a run reminiscent of Antonio Conte’s team of last season, which routinely fell behind before rallying themselves late on - to varying effects.

Here, they have held 65 per cent of possession but had zero shots on target.

The road is where the heart is for Wolves

As things stand, they’ll go tenth in the table and just two points off the final European place.

Disappointing first half for a Spurs side who saw plenty of the ball but barely tested the Wolves goal — the only save Jose Sa had to make coming with the final action of the half when he denied Richarlison on the angle.

Wolves have been potent on the break, and yet they lead through a set-piece, with Joao Gomes’ superb header the different at the break.

It’s been a solid response from Wolves to the early Tottenham pressure, and both teams are opting to slow it down and keep the ball to ensure they don’t lose the first goal.

Ready to go in north London

14:54 , Marc Mayo

Pretty much every seat is filled as the pre-match video is played out in Tottenham Stadium.

There is always a strong Korean attendance for Heung-min Son but it feels as though the Spurs captain has even more support from home today, likely as this is his first start since the Asian Cup and his compatriot Hwang Hee-chan lines up for Wolves.

What's at stake today

14:49 , Marc Mayo

Spurs can go four points clear in the race for fourth place and even pull to within two points of third-placed Arsenal if they win and other results go their way today.

Wolves will leapfrog Chelsea into tenth with a win, ahead of the Blues’ trip to Man City later on.

A defeat puts them at risk of Fulham edging past them, if the Cottagers win at home to Aston Villa and overturn a four-goal deficit in terms of goal-difference

Why Ange Postecoglou has turned to Yves Bissouma

14:44 , Marc Mayo

Yves Bissouma is poised to make his first start for Tottenham since mid-December in a few short moments’ time.

The 27-year-old, a crucial cog in the Spurs machine earlier this season, has endured a frustrating, stop-start couple of months.

This season, he has been exceptional, registering a pass completion rate of 91.1 per cent.

Bissouma has made more tackles in the middle third of the pitch than any other Spurs player this season — despite his two-month absence — but he must improve his discipline. Bissouma is both Spurs' most booked and red-carded player this term.

Gary O'Neil looking for repeat performance

14:40 , Marc Mayo

Wolves have enjoyed success away from home of late, where they are unbeaten in five games, and Gary O’Neil is looking forward to implementing a familiar style against Tottenham.

He said: “We’ll do our best to do that and see if we can make it an uncomfortable day for Tottenham.

“They are a really good side, they have some top quality players, extreme strengths, and they will ask us a lot of questions. So, we need to be able to answer them and we know we can pose a threat with some of the attacking players we have.

“They don’t change, they play the same way a lot. Really comfortable with the ball, have a lot of the ball, really aggressive without it to get it back quickly, so we’ve prepared the lads on what that might feel like, especially at their place with their home crowd and them coming after us.

“We’re going to need to be clean with the ball and understand the solutions very quickly. They try and combine a lot, loads of short passes, combining through the middle, obviously fantastic attacking players.

“We go there with a game plan and a shape we’ve used before and look to carry it out as well as possible.”

Liverpool with a comfortable 4-1 win at Brentford to push them into a (potentially temporary) five-point advantage atop the table.

Ange Postecoglou labels Heung-min Son a true 'leader'

14:21 , Marc Mayo

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has hailed club captain Heung-min Son as a true “leader”.

Postecoglou made the South Korea star Tottenham’s full-time skipper but he hit the headlines when it emerged he had dislocated his finger in an altercation with South Korea teammate Lee Kang-in ahead of their shock Asia Cup defeat to Jordan.

Postecoglou said: “I don't know all the details [of the altercation] and kind of don't want to know, because it is an internal matter [for South Korea]. But what I know of the story is Sonny showing leadership.

“That's what leadership is all about. Leadership is not about being popular and trying to make everybody happy, it's about when you see something that you don't feel is right, then you stand up for it because it's the best thing for the group. I see that in Sonny.”

Pedro Porro makes injury vow

14:17 , Marc Mayo

Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro has described his injury blow as a “small bump in the road”.

Fans spotted that Porro was not present at Spurs’ open training session in midweek and Ange Postecoglou has confirmed his absence.

The manager said ahead of today’s game with Wolves that the Spaniard will miss out having suffered a “strain” in training, potentially keeping him out for a fortnight.

The player has now posted on social media that he expects to make a quick return.

“Small bump in the road but same mentality as always,” he wrote.

“Back soon.”

There is more good news in that Yves Bissouma starts his first match since mid-December following a stop-start time of it due to suspensions and then competing at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ange Postecoglou delivers injury update

13:36 , Marc Mayo

Fraser Forster, Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro all miss out today, while the Spurs boss has also been speaking about Ryan Sessegnon.

Ange Postecoglou said: “We’ve had a couple of setbacks this week. Destiny picked up a little bit of a knock last week and he’s not available for tomorrow.

“I don’t think it’s anything serious ... he should be back [to face Crystal Palace]. Pedro picked up a strain in training. Hopefully a couple of weeks for him.

“The major one is Fraser Forster. He’s got a bit of a fracture in his foot, so he’ll miss about two months.”

On Sessegnon, he added: “He’s back training, which is the first thing. Now he’s got to put a body of work together in training and we’ll go from there.

“This is the first week we’ve had with him. So far, this week, he’s trained well, done everything he’s been asked of, and hopefully that continues.”

Team news is expected at 2pm GMT.

Tottenham vs Wolves prediction

12:52

Tottenham will be rightly wary of Wolves after seeing them dismantle Chelsea on their last trip to London earlier this month, though injury to the visitors’ forward line will have a say on the game. Even with Pedro Neto fit and firing again, Cunha and Hwang’s absence could blunt O’Neil’s side.

Spurs have Son back and it took him just half an hour to get another goal contributing, laying the ball on a plate for Johnson’s 96th-minute winner against Brighton, and his return to skipper the side is huge. Spurs have scored in 36 consecutive league games, and I expect that record to continue.

Spurs to win, 2-0.

Our prediction for the Wolves line-up

12:45

Predicted Wolves XI (3-4-3): Sa; Kilman, Dawson, Toti; Semedo, Lemina, Doyle, Ait-Nouri; Sarabia, Hwang, Neto

Early Wolves team news

12:38

Wolves will hope to hand a start to Heung-min Son's South Korea teammate Hwang Hee-chan after he was left out of the squad for the defeat to Brentford due to a calf injury.

Fellow forward Matheus Cunha is also out after suffering a significant hamstring injury.

How we think Spurs will line up

12:33

Predicted Tottenham XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Dragusin, Van de Ven, Romero, Davies; Bissouma, Sarr; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Richarlison

Early Spurs team news

12:26

Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro have been ruled out of the game through injury. Emerson Royal and Ben Davies are in reserve to cover. Giovani Lo Celso is hoping to be back in contention after another week on the training ground.

Last week, Tottenham against Brighton brought Heung-min Son off the bench upon the captain’s return from the Asian Cup, so should start at the weekend.

Timo Werner is the most likely to drop out, with Dejan Kulusevski better on the right and Richarlison in fine goalscoring form through the middle.

Brennan Johnson scored the winner against Brighton so will stake his own claim to start.
