Town agree deal for Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene - with medical scheduled
Ipswich Town have agreed a deal to sign Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene on a permanent deal, the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star understands.
Having had an offer accepted by Hull City for the 22-year-old over the summer, the Villans triggered a clause to match the bid and bring him back to Villa Park instead.
However, with minutes limited, manager Unai Emery revealed that a loan exit was possible, with Ipswich interested in taking him on until the end of the season.
Reports suggested that their Premier League rivals, Everton, were keen to bring him in on a permanent deal, which prompted the Blues to make a bid of their own, as first revealed by Fabrizio Romano. We understand this to be £20 million plus add-ons.
Romano also confirmed that a medical is scheduled for tomorrow morning, and that a 'direct call' with manager Kieran McKenna proved to be decisive in the move. He’ll sign a four-and-a-half year deal, having already agreed terms.
Philogene registered 12 goals and six assists in 32 Championship games for Hull last season. However, he's made just two starts and nine cameos in the Premier League for Aston Villa since returning to the club back in July.
The versatile wide man is set to become Ipswich's second signing after bringing in Ben Godfrey in on loan from Atalanta. Town are also looking to sign a striker and a right winger, having had a £16 million offer for 19-year-old Middlesbrough loanee Ben Doak rejected by Liverpool.
Philogene has seven England Under-21 caps to his name, having started in a front three alongside Ipswich attackers Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson in their 2-1 win against Ukraine back in October.
