Ipswich Town have agreed a deal with Middlesbrough for the sale of defender George Edmundson.

The 27-year-old made 21 appearances on loan for the Championship club in the first half of the season.

Boro then had multiple bids for Edmundson turned down by Ipswich in the early stages of the transfer window, with Ipswich subsequently recalling him.

The EADT and Ipswich Star understands that a deal has now been thrashed out. The Blues are set to receive a guaranteed £600k, with add-ons having the potential to more than double that number.

Edmundson could have walked away from Portman Road as a free agent this summer and he was unable to play for any other clubs than Ipswich and Middlesbrough for the remainder of this campaign under the two-club rule.

Ipswich signed Edmundson from Scottish club Rangers for a £750k fee in 2021. He was the ninth of 19 summer signings by manager Paul Cook and went on to play an important role in back-to-back promotions to the Premier League.

He'll depart having made 71 starts and four sub appearances for the Blues.
