Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene on a four-and-a-half year deal.

The Blues had agreed a deal with Championship side Hull City to sign him last summer, but the Villans triggered a clause in his contract to match the bid and bring him back to Villa Park instead, having initially sold him to the Tigers 12 months earlier.

However, with limited minutes so far this season, manager Unai Emery initially revealed that he could leave on loan, which alerted Town. Premier League Everton reportedly discussed terms for a permanent move, with Ipswich then launching a bid of £20 million plus add-ons to bring him to Suffolk.

That was accepted by Aston Villa, allowing him to complete his medical last week. Although the deal has been held up for a number of days, Town boss Kieran McKenna confirmed today that they were making progress on agreeing the final terms.

Philogene registered 12 goals and six assists for Hull in 32 Championship games last season. At Aston Villa, he’s featured just 11 times in the Premier League, coming off the bench nine times.

He did start against Bayern Munich in the Champions League back in October, but was unable to nail down a spot in Emery's lineup.

"I’m excited to be here and I know there are great players in the squad,” he told the club's website.

"I just want to play as much as possible. As a player I like to dribble and link up play and provide goals and assists. I’m looking forward to it.”

Philogene becomes Ipswich’s second signing of the January transfer window after bringing in Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta. He won't be able to feature against Brighton tomorrow night, but could make his debut in Sunday's home match against defending Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Blues are still looking to add a striker and another wide option before the deadline on February 3rd.
