Trade rumor rankings: Jimmy Butler, Zion Williamson and more
We're back with another installment of our trade rumor rankings series in which we rank the five players who have appeared most often in Trade Rumors over the previous week.
Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler remains the most discussed trade candidate right now but he's not the only player getting mentioned in rumors. One of those other names that keeps coming up in rumors is a former No. 1 pick who has had a disappointing season, and career, overall.
Below, check out the five most-mentioned players in trade rumors over the last seven days.
5. Zion Williamson (New Orleans)
One of the more disappointing No. 1 picks in recent league history, New Orleans Pelicans swingman Zion Williamson is trudging through yet another injury-plagued campaign, having seen action in just six games this season before injuring his hamstring.
Making Williamson's case all the more frustrating (besides the fact that it's somewhat self-inflicted due to his never showing up for his team in great physical shape) is that when he is healthy, he is extremely productive. Lest we forget, at one point, Williamson was the best under-21 scorer in league history by points per game.
Now injured and potentially (he's got intricate weight-related stipulations in his deal) under contract until 2027-28 when he'll be owed a whopping $44.9 million, it's unclear what Williamson's trade market would be if the Pelicans do decide to shop him. That was the topic of a recent ESPN article in which an Eastern Conference executive talked about the former No. 1 pick's trade value:
Might Williamson be a surprise trade candidate this year? It's starting to look more possible as the Pelicans struggle through the season. New Orleans currently boasts a 7-29 record.

4. Zach LaVine (Chicago)
Enjoying an impressive bounce-back season in which he's averaging 22.7 points and 4.4 assists on 44.6 percent shooting from three, Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine has also seen his trade value bounce back thanks to his play this year.
LaVine came up in trade rumors this week courtesy of our own Michael Scotto, who reported that the odds of the Denver Nuggets trading for LaVine had dwindled despite some scuttle attaching the two parties:
LaVine has two years left on his contract after this one, a deal that will peak in 2026-27 when the explosive scorer will be owed nearly $49 million. LaVine's contract also has a valuable player option on it for '27.
We'll see if the one-time UCLA Bruin has done enough to improve his trade value to the point another team would be willing to take on a deal of that size.

3. De'Aaron Fox (Sacramento)
With the Sacramento Kings' struggles this season and the subsequent firing of former Coach of the Year Mike Brown, rumors began to sprout about star point guard De'Aaron Fox's availability on the trade market.
However, according to the New York Times, it's likelier Fox is available next offseason rather than at this upcoming trade deadline. Reporter Marc Stein said this past week that Fox is not considered to be available right now. He also reported that it's not "automatic" that the Houston Rockets, a reported interested party in Fox, will go after him this offseason.
Fox recently discussed his relationship with Brown, saying he never had an argument with his former head coach (via ESPN):
Finally, a week ago, Stein reported that Brooklyn is looking for "multiple" first-round picks in exchange for Johnson.
It looks like whoever does go after Johnson should be expecting to lose a lot of valuable assets if they want to land him, and with good reason, as Brooklyn has rightly put a big asking prize on the valuable shooter.

1. Jimmy Butler (Miami)
The Butler saga has been well-covered all over the place by multiple news outlets.
Late last week, it was announced that Butler would be suspended for seven games for conduct that was deemed detrimental to the team. Then, just last night, the Miami Herald reported that the Heat would expect Butler to rejoin the team and play in games if he hasn't been traded by the end of his suspension:
While the Miami Heat continues to listen to trade offers for six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler, his Heat tenure isn’t officially over yet. According to a source close to the situation, Butler will be expected to rejoin the Heat and play in games if he’s still on the roster at the end of his team-issued seven-game suspension. As of now, the Heat is not interested in having Butler remain away from the team while paying him the remainder of his $48.8 million salary for this season after his suspension is over.
Needless to say, that could set up a stormy situation if and when Butler does return to the team.
Beyond that, there's a ton to cover on the Butler trade front, so we're going to take it to bullet format to get as much info out there as possible:
The only team not low-balling the Heat for Butler are the Phoenix Suns, but Miami is not interested in taking back Bradley Beal and his monstrous contract, which famously has a no-trade clause on it (via Barry Jackson).
The Heat are looking for a trade that will require them to take back as little long-term money as possible, which could drag out the trade process (via Stein).
Heat star Bam Adebayo said it was disappointing to see a player and organization battle it out publicly like what is going on between Butler and Miami (via the Miami Herald).
The Warriors and Mavericks, like Phoenix with Beal, would probably need to find a third team to take back long-term money if they want Butler (via ESPN).
The Warriors might not even be interested in Butler due to Miami's price tag, as well as his age and injury history (via the New York Times).
Miami will try to trade Butler as soon as possible, according to Shams Charania.
And that's just a bit of all the recent reporting on the Butler trade front. To get even more detailed reporting on the matter, just click the link below.
Either way, what does seem likely is that Butler's time in South Florida should be over sooner rather than later.
