Ealing Trailfinders stretched their lead at the top of the Championship to 12 points as they took advantage of Coventry’s defeat to cement their place as leaders.

Ealing ran in nine tries against Caldy, while Nottingham crossed six times to beat Cov.
Ryan Olowofela got one of those, with brother Jordan getting two for Doncaster Knights as they beat Hartpury.

Elsewhere, Cornish Pirates won on the road at Ampthill, while Bedford Blues and London Scottish triumphed at home.

Nottingham bring down Cov

Nottingham withstood a second-half comeback to claim a landmark 41-26 victory over Coventry.

The hosts took charge of an error-strewn first half. Seb Ferreira and Harry Clayton crossed and Matt Arden converted both to open up a 14-7 interval lead.

Coventry came roaring back early in the second half through skipper Jordon Poole but Ryan Olowofela gathered and scored from the resulting restart to restore Nottingham’s lead.

Five-pointers from James Martin and Tom Ball saw the visitors clamber back to 31-26 before Nottingham scored twice late on to seal the spoils and hand Cov a third successive defeat.

Trailfinders take advantage

As their closest rivals slipped up, Ealing Trailfinders made no such mistake as they ran in nine tries to beat Caldy 55-26.

The league leaders were at their devastating best in the first half, scoring 31 points without reply as Angus Kernohan notched two and Simon Uzokwe, Michael Willemse and Will Montgomery also got their names on the scoresheet.

Caldy enjoyed an excellent spell early in the second half, crossing the whitewash three times in 15 minutes through Ollie Hearn, Paul Robinson and a penalty try.

But the hosts remained in control with Rayn Smid and Ben Harris adding sheen to the scoreline with tries in the last ten minutes.

Blues turn on the style

Bedford had a barnstorming second-half display to thank for their 50-7 win over Cambridge.

The visitors took the lead on 23 minutes when Ben Brownlie burrowed over and the first half was tightly contested, before Joey Conway and Dean Adamson opened up a 17-7 interval lead.

Blues let rip as the second half progressed, scoring five tries in 20 minutes with Adamson, Lucas Titherington, Ed Prowse, Joe Howard and Louis James contributing to an emphatic triumph.

Scottish win the arm wrestle

Second-bottom London Scottish claimed a precious second win of the season by beating mid-table Chinnor 26-15.

Roma Zheng scored the only try of a cagey first half as Scottish took an 8-3 advantage into the break.

Zheng dived over once again on 46 minutes before Tom Wilstead kicked a pair of penalties and George Head crashed over from a rolling maul to strengthen the hosts’ grip on the result.

Pirates make it five of the best

Cornish Pirates recorded a fifth successive Championship victory as they came away from Ampthill with a 33-17 success.

Will Trewin got the ball rolling after just five minutes before Charlie McCaig doubled the advantage with his first try for Pirates.

Dan Hiscocks then crossed twice in five minutes to bring up the visitors’ bonus point after just 24 minutes.

Samson Adejimi pulled a score back for Ampthill before half-time, with Jack Bracken cutting the deficit further early in the second half.

A second try for McCaig extinguished any hopes of a comeback although Ampthill had the final say as James Johnston got over at the death.

Olowofela at the double as Knights down Hartpury

Jordan Olowofela grabbed two tries as Doncaster Knights powered to a 38-22 victory over Hartpury.

It was the visitors who scored the first try, full-back Alex Forrester getting the first of two tries after just 10 minutes.

But Olowofela set up Telusa Veainu for the first Knights try, before Thom Smith added a second as they led 16-8 at the break.

Arthur Green extended Doncaster’s advantage before a wonderful solo score from Olowofela brought up the bonus point just before the hour.

Forrester grabbed a second but Doncaster pulled clear once more as Olowofela set up Connor Edwards before notching his second try.

James Gibbons grabbed a late third for Hartpury but it was too little too late.
